Not sure how far I'll get, and if I'll even install it, but thinking about machining a solenoid block-off plate. Don't want to go to the trouble of removing mine to get dimensions, so thinking if someone's removed theirs and doesn't want it we can figure something out. Functional or non-functional, doesn't matter, as long as the main post and mounting bracket aren't physically damaged.

Imo, ppl like you that have the "know how" to try things like this, make this forum worth while.

If this happens, make a post about the journey. Cheers!

Well, I looked it up and there’s a ton of Nissan parts departments that carry it, and I can get it next day from my warehouse. Out of curiosity why are you looking to make your own versus having it replaced?

I'm not seriously considering regular/frequent replacement (sooner than Nissan's recommended interval, whatever that is) or blocking it off. One thing I am planning is to add some way to constantly monitor oil pressure. A gauge through OBDII, CAN bus or adding a sandwich plate and sensor. Would like to go OBDII, but I haven't been able to determine if live oil pressure is available through the OBD port. Separate topic anyway.

To finally answer your question, I'd like to make one (block off plate) solely to go through the process of designing and making it. May seem weird to some, but I play around and machine stuff and a lot of times it's to make small tools and jigs for work. I'd like to make something for myself just to see the end result and know it's actually useful. AND, if I finally get the oil pressure gauge figured out, I may log pressures, install the blockoff plate, then see if there's any difference over the RPM range and whatever other conditions that result in different oil pressures with and without the solenoid.

None of this is worth doing ("my process") if I can't take precise measurements off of a solenoid, and at this point I don't want to spend ~$100 on a new solenoid just to take measurements then sit it on a shelf in the garage. And it appears there are no off-brand (Dorman, AC Delco) or Chinese knock-offs for that part.

I understand if this sounds ridiculous to some people...or a lot of people...it's just something I'd like to do.

if you're not installing a new one, you could return it afterwards...

@Drago86 ...She's mine (the $20 one)
@ShearMe ...Almost went with your suggestion, and thank you, but with Drago86's suggestion, it's worth $21.50 to avoid going way across town to Nissan. Twice. Which on its own would probably be $10+ in gas.

Plan to create in Solidworks and make one myself. Although that may be 2-piece, as I don't have a CNC nor machines with DROs, so it's 100% old-school manual machining.
MIGHT get with the machine shops I buy from just to see what they would cost to make. The one I would start with is where I get some pretty high-tolerance and complicated parts for 30mm ammunition loaders. This would be a piece of cake for them, but not sure of the cost to make a handful. If it's competitive with the company that sells them now, and there's interest here, may do a small run just for forum members. Don't want to get into business or make money, just want to see if I can do it, and maybe help the Z community a little.

Thank you both!

If they had a sketch with dimensions it would...lol!
Are they the only ones currently making them? That piece isn't that big. And it's not complicated for a CNC, so high cycle rate. Buying 100 I'd assume they're maybe $15-$25 ea.

Can you remove the connector from the ebay part with the terminals intact, and solder the resistor across the other end of the terminals? What ohm resistor?

I’ll ask a nerd at work. 40k square foot facility, and you could close your eyes, spin 5 times, throw a dart and you’re guaranteed to hit an EE.

The nerds were not helpful. Either too nerdy or not nerdy enough. It turned into discussions rather than answers. Should get the solenoid next week. I’ll ohm it out. Would the resistance I measure across the solenoid be the ohms needed to jump the car harness?

And after it’s jumped, wouldn’t the car be expecting different resistance at different oil pressures in order to control the solenoid, and freak out (throw lights) if the resistance was constant?
