Good luck indeed:

Damage to the shift knob from the strap wrench slipping (pretty minor considering the @*%@ lever broke lol):

have to drive with the shift knob of shame to work tomorrow:

Fun fact: a new shift knob is ~$200 and the shift lever is ~$400: https://parts.nissanusa.com/parts/nissan-gear-shift-assembly-328396gp0a

Luckily Nissan doesn't update parts unless a literal gun is to their head so I'm 99% sure a used 370z lever from fleabay is the exact same thing. I could also go short shifter but the throws felt fine to me stock

Godspeed if you attempt this.
Well, since its broken, 'might as well' get that short shifter:crackup:

I used 2 strap wrenches and a little muscle. Took my time trying to remove factory knob.

This exact effing thing just happened to me. Thought finally it’s loosening and bam it sheered off. Did it the same way as everyone else. Vise grips heat belt towel all the above.

Did you finish the lever replacement? What part did you go with? Please let me know I’m furious rn

How it turned out:

Note that it isnt fixed for real here. I ended up rethreading a universal shift adaptor to the stock thread and machining it down to size to fit the stock plastic trim ring. I also had to cut ~1/4th inch off the remaining shift lever to get it to sit correctly, but its rock solid now and im not very motivated to install the replacement lever I bought.

Boot is the rsw japan in blue alcantara wirh black stitching (doesnt match the factory blue, its a darker more sapphire blue. At first I was concerned but kind of like it now.)

Knob is a cheapie amazon knob o bought as temporary but ended up liking a lot. The stock knob fits perfect again with the machined adaptor but ive grown attached to the cheapie.
Can you send me the link of your universal adapter that worked for you?

I want to replace my shift boot, I’m happy with the knob, all this nonsense with removing the knob has me rethinking changing the shift boot.

I went with Torque Solutions
Billetworkz shift knob with custom color
Custom stitched ebrake and shift boot
Look up CustomEbrakes on Insta

Damn that looks great. The short shifter didn’t look like too bad of an install.

I was between the Z1 short shifter and torque solutions. Ended up going with the Z1 with it being on sale. Will update on how it feels once it’s installed

There isn't one that works with the stock knob with no modification. I used this one (and even the knob for a short time) as a starting place:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D41KYVS8

It will work but it is M12x1.25 so it wont work with the stock knob or other knobs meant for the Z (but you can just buy m12x 1.25 knobs you like) It is also too large diameter to fit the stock knob plastic finisher.

I eventually re-tapped it to M10x1.25 with this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B6R6LZQK

I first machined down the diameter on the upper ~1/2 of the adaptor until it fit the stock knob finisher tightly down enough for the knob to screw on and it be in the proper place.

I also cut off most of the bottom of the adaptor so it would sit lower and used a countersink tool on the ID for the same reason.

I just chucked it into a drill and used files for the machining, I did it before I re-tapped the threads so I didn't have to worry about messing up the adaptor threads in the drill.

I also had to cut off the remaining threads from the shift lever so that the adaptor would sit down lower and engage with the section of the lever that had increased diameter and no threads.

I probably wouldn't have done all that and just replaced the shift lever as it's probably honestly easier, but I cheaped out and ordered a shift lever from Japan because it was way cheaper and it took quite a while to get here. I honestly got tired of the cheap plastic magic 8 ball shifter in that time and decided to try to modify the adaptor lol.

I bought this lever: https://www.ebay.com/itm/317236467335

It is for a 370z but they are identical. I like the stock throws, but if you wish they were shorter now is the time to buy a short shifter as they are way cheaper and more available than the stock lever.

Am I missing the Torque Solutions shifter for our cars on their site? They have nothing listed for the Z, only the prior generations.

I purchased the 370Z and its a direct fit. Along with the shift knobs, coilovers, etc

So you had to remove the entire center console to get this replaced. Was that pretty straight forward? Was there a specific order you removed pieces in? I was hoping all the brackets and boot would be removable through just taking off the top plastic like it was in the 350z
