Do you navigation? Is that located on the driver or passenger side??

thanks,
I found the telematics communication unit (TCU) location and its antenna. The telematics and GPS antennas share the same connection to the TCU. You can find this diagram on page 433 of this section of the service manual.

The AV unit must be completely removed from the dashboard to remove the TCU itself. They connect to each other by USB. The mounting method is the same for cars both with and without navigation (page 343).

This is the routing of the TCU antenna cable to the TCU, found on page 438 of the same section. The plug to the TCU may be reachable by removing the glove box and the surrounding trim piece. Each half of the antenna is attached to the underside of the dashboard by one screw.

Additional removal instructions follow. The center air vents and lower trim around the AV unit must be removed first, as detailed in this section.

I don't have access to my car right now, so I can't test these procedures myself, but I hope someone else in this thread may find this useful.

Ok, I am pushing my dealer to get this done - if you shut off you have to do it everytime you restart car. The SA and Manager are supposedly speaking with Nissan to find out a way to disable - I think legally they have to. Giving them a little more time then I am going to Nissan direct. I went into "secret" menu and nothing I could find. I am going to ask my tuner if he can disble - going through tuning process now.

Spoke with a guy at work today that worked at a local GM dealership. A guy had his manual Camaro towed in with a grenaded engine. ‘Was driving and all of a sudden, ka-blammo.’ He said they got into the “flight recorder” and although it didn’t show what gear he was in, he was cruising at 87 (~3200 rpm) and it immediately went to WOT, 9600 rpm, and boom.
He was denied warranty service.

All of you may already know, but if a car can monitor something it can record it, and most if not all new cars record. A little different than constant monitoring, but still intrusive.

That kind of information is recorded in the PCM, which is not the TCU

Sounds like he money shifted it, you can get that out of a Snap On ZEUS scanner also at minimum it can give you a snapshot

If anyone has done this on there Z, sharing the location of said connector would be much appreciated.

Having attempted this today, I can confirm that it's not possible to unplug the TCU or its antenna without at least partially removing the head unit. By going through the passenger side after removing the glovebox surround, I was able to feel the antenna connector on the back of the TCU. There's not enough room behind the TCU to release the plug and back it out. The plug is very nearly in the middle TCU, so you won't have much better access by going through the driver side either.

That said...

There's a way to turn off vehicle data transmission that keeps it off even if you restart the car. From the main menu:
  1. Tap "Info" along the bottom
  2. Tap the right arrow to go to the second page
  3. Tap "Vehicle Data Transmission" in the right column
  4. Tap "Decline"
The screen will display "Vehicle Data Transmission is LIMITED" every time the car turns on. Given the effort needed to take apart the dash to free the head unit without damage, I think this might be our best bet for the time being.

Agree, but I still don't like even this. I really wish the car would just turn on and jump right to operating mode with no legalese screen involved. I feel like I'm signing a contract every time I drive.

If anyone finds this thread and wants to also make their car into a ghost car, the best way is to unplug all of the antenna cables (GPS/sim card) leading to the TCU (maybe even the AV). The best way to get access is by removing the Head Unit. I would implore reading this article https://www.nissanzclub.com/forum/threads/how-to-removing-the-factory-head-unit-24-sport.5060/ by @Exquisite_Red for instructions how to remove the head unit to gain access to the TCU, and to review what @citrus details above on what to remove. To Note, the left most plug on the TCU is REQUIRED for the infotainment to function.

The most difficult part of this entire process (other than the time 8 hours for me to complete the job) is putting the knee guards back on. The trick is to connect the tabs sticking out on the A/C controls first, bend the whole A/C unit a bit and stick the other tabs on the bottom in.

Good luck to anyone who also attempts this, and fuck data collection.
