"The initial post claimed a dealer in El Monte, California had a $68,500 Z Nismo listed with an $89,995 markup, giving it a final price of $158,495. For comparison, that’s more than you’d pay for a Porsche 911 GTS with a manual transmission. Sure, a 911 is a more common sight than the Z, but come on. Who in their right mind would pay manual 911 GTS money for a Z Nismo?"

California Dealer Wants $158,495 For A Nissan Z Nismo (jalopnik.com)
I believe it. I had 2 dealers tell me 50k markup on a performance model back in May when I was looking. I hung up

Updated with data collected on October 27th (compared to October 20th).

Using the zip codes in this V2 area covered map here's a spreadsheet that shows the inventory within the circles (more or less):

Inventory Spreadsheet

The number of cars in the area covered increased from 391 to 394 (+3 cars).
  • removed: 28
  • added: 31
  • highest serial number: 360958

Thanks! Question, since I have my sheet open already, seems like refreshing it works too? Good details on the numbers though.

Yeah, I add a new page to the spreadsheet every week, and I just kinda got into a habit of seeing how the inventory levels change week by week (not much, except every so often), so I keep posting this update.

I think the next interesting milestone will be when the 2023s totally drop off. However, if we hit the 700ish number that @MCN1SMO mentioned above, I may just stop generating the spreadsheet. If there are that many cars floating around, you probably won't need this spreadsheet to find one.

There is a procedure to electronically file a report to the manufacturer that a unit has been sold. It's called an "RDR", or Retail Delivery Report.

Part of the processing of a sales transaction is also to remove that unit from inventory (which includes their website), in part to also advise their floor plan financial institution the car is sold so they no longer pay for that portion the car represents.
What if a unit no longer shows on the Nissan website but a dealer's website shows it's still for sale? Some shenanigans?

Edit: nevermind. It's just the Nissan website being crappy. The car shows when I use a zip code from that city ? which is dumb because I set the search distance to 250 miles

Sometimes, dealers will keep a car on their site in the hopes someone will respond to that listing.

"Oh, It just got sold, sorry. But, we have a sale on Sentras!"

I've found that even with a large search radius, you'll only receive 120 results for any given search. It'd be interesting to know if that's what happened here.

Yeah I encountered that with Supras. Every single one I called about was "accounted for" but "we can order you one!"

Only 2 months to go in 2023, and there are 43 2023 Zs still in the list, fewer than the number of cars removed this week (though most cars removed were 2024s)

Updated with data collected on November 3rd (compared to October 27th).

The number of cars in the area covered increased from 394 to 472 (+78 cars).
