Most of the cops here have their radar on when stopped for duty. Detectors tell me I’m approaching school zones and wrecks before I get to them. They also warn me a cop is likely on the side of the road ahead somewhere. I do like being reminded to check my speed, but my detector is a safety device, not a law-breaking device. But mine is also mounted out of the way, can be easily turned off and on, muted, etc. I really value it as a tool in my car.In my area troopers are getting wise to radar detectors. They briefly turn on their radar guns to capture your speed then turn it off. Also they have been putting up radar guns all along highways to essentially scramble your detector. My advice is just do the speed limit and don't waste your money on detectors. Jammers are a different story though...
Police operate radar in two modes - constant and instant on (I/O). It's pretty normal for Troopers to use I/O and local police to use constant. I/O's been around since the late 70's/early 80's so it isn't anything new.In my area troopers are getting wise to radar detectors. Yep, I'm with you - a detector helps in many ways. We all speed occasionally whether we're late for work or getting our kids to a sporting event. Cops know that but they have a job to do. Many of us choose to avoid roadside conversations if we can avoid it, lol. By the way, a lot more reports of TN Troopers using I/O these days than in the past. I got hit with I/O about 6 months ago by a local cop in Gatlinburg. Thankfully, she was operating it sloppily so I had a 1/2 mile warning from my detector. Most of the cops here have their radar on when stopped for duty. I got a Escort Redline 360, and that thing has saved me heaps, especially when they're just hiding around a corner/bend in vegetation. The cops have busted many cars speeding along in front of me though hahahaIn my area troopers are getting wise to radar detectors. Radar jammers, super illegal at both state and federal level. Laser jammers? Have funIn my area troopers are getting wise to radar detectors. Radar detector doesn't add points to your licenseI figured that my detector is about the same cost as a traffic ticket, so may as well get the detector.
Double check your state laws regarding radar detectors.Radar jammers, super illegal at both state and federal level. Laser jammers? Have fun
Thanks everyone for the good info here. I will use this information to mount and wire my detector.
Thx especially to the gentleman with the post which had a video!
Yes, detectors are on a state by state basis, while jammers are in a different class entirely and federal and state felonies.Double check your state laws regarding radar detectors.
For reference, radar jammers are regulated by FCC and laser jammers are regulated by the FDA. States have their laws regarding mechanical and electronic jamming devices. I did not see any laws regarding physical jammers, like special paint that doesn't reflect certain wavelengths of light.Yes, detectors are on a state by state basis, while jammers are in a different class entirely and federal and state felonies.
The on/off feature (I/O & quick trigger) has been around for decades - nothing new here and no one has radar guns that scramble radar detectors. Fixed radar sources are easily defected by top line radar detectors. In my area troopers are getting wise to radar detectors. In construction zones in my area, they post up radar devices along the highway that caused my detector to show Ka band signals coming from all directions at varying strengths and it was for about 2-3 miles. It wasn't a glitch. The on/off feature (I/O & quick trigger) has been around for decades - nothing new here and no one has radar guns that scramble radar detectors. Awesome - i wish i could find a ka speed sign for testing. What frequency? In construction zones in my area, they post up radar devices along the highway that caused my detector to show Ka band signals coming from all directions at varying strengths and it was for about 2-3 miles. It wasn't a glitch.
