Update on my case.
  • Fri, Mar 13, car is in for 3-year service. Tech notices fuel leak. Shop orders parts for overnight delivery.
  • Sat, Mar 14, shop replaces "fuel tube assembly". I get home for the evening, car smells like gasoline.
  • Sun, Mar 15 through Wed, Mar 18, every time I drive the car it smells like gasoline. The AC sucks the smell into the cabin.
  • Wed, Mar 18, I take the car back to the shop. They smell gasoline too. They inspect the repair work and clean the area. They didn't find any leaks. Drive back to work seems fine. Keeping an eye on it.
Another member has run into faulty parts and replaced this tube three times. Keep a close eye on it. You can remove the engine cover to get a better view of that tube under the driver side frontish area of the cover.

Yes, removing the cover gives you the best overall view of the area in question. You can also peak into the area a little, on the driver’s side, under the cover, without removing it, to look/ smell for any leaks. I’ve started doing this whenever I check the oil, just as a precaution.

Just drove home from work, the car reeks of gasoline. I pulled into the garage, and the AC pulled the smell into the cabin, and it"s still pretty strong when I step out of the vehicle and under the hood. I think the new part is probably okay. There must a be a leak elsewhere, or maybe a very slow leak in the original location.

Dunno what's going on, but you should never smell gas from a modern vehicle.

Damn… I’m sure you’re keeping an eye it. I don’t want to read an update ā€œToday, Z became a smoking fireball. The shop said ā€œbring it back, we’ll take another lookā€¦ā€ ;)
Yeah, I don't want you to read that post either šŸ˜€, so it's back to the shop.

I hate hassles like this. Aggravating! :explode:

Yep, take that baby back in! I'd be afraid to even start the car up and would call the Nissan shop and request they pick the car up.

I found one complaint on NHTSA.gov for The Z dated 3/13/26 from San Diego.Assume that’s @bpeckham
Planning to dig into Q50 and Q60 tonight. Will report findings if not done before then.

Whoever is or has experienced this PLEASE report to NHTSA. Cars can have all kinds of dangerous intrinsic defects, but this one is bad. Whether the issue is design/Eng, manufacturing, installation process, so some/all of the above, NHTSA needs to know. I assume Nissan is planning to or will do the right thing, but when? If this is one of those ā€œreplace them all, or all from a certain batch(es),ā€ it needs to be done now, not 2 years from now. And ringing NHTSAs bell could (should!) speed that up.

Agree. Plus, I don't know how "efficient" the NHTSA is, but if it's anything like typical government, it can take awhile for the wheels to start spinning on something.

I'd love to see some pro-active moves on this rather than waiting until something catastrophic happens. Having ANY car self-immolate is never good, especially in these days of increasing car complexity, where you might have a difficult time getting out of the thing. Fortunately, the Z doesn't have a pile of lithium "bombs" in it, like the Tesla, but lighting off a decent quantity of petrol isn't exactly safe, either.

Well, maybe they'll do something if it's self-immolating more than 2 out of 10 times, because 2 or less just isn't worth the effort.

One of the reasons I didn't stay in the Corvette world when I got my Z was all the corvettes I was looking at had a semi-infamous issue where GM used a plastic pump on top of the fuel tanks that over time deteriorated and you would have to replace cause gas fumes would start leaking out.

2004 (last year of C5) through 2018 (second to last year of C7) had the issue. GM somewhat recognized the issue around 2016 after years and years of complaints and would replace it for free if it was something like within 4 years of mfg date and had the issue. So anyone before 2012 was screwed and nobody can get theirs fixed for free now.

How on earth it took them a decade and a half to fix this issue and even worse were NEVER forced to make a recall for it is beyond me.

This is very disappointing to hear about the Z. @bpeckham dude I feel so bad this is happening to you.

The Z went to into the shop again today around 10am with instructions to find and fix the source of the fuel smell, regardless of whether it is associated with the original repair or not. No word back yet by around 6pm.

I also wanted to say thanks to this forum. I appreciate the advice from folks and learning from other forum members experiences with the Z and other cars.

I'll update when I know more. I'm sure they'll fix it, and it will be interesting to hear what the problem is.

Seems this is happening when the Z is over 13k miles? I hit 5500 earlier this week ... I use as daily driver w/ 30 miles round trip a day. It will take me another 2 years to get there. Please keep us informed ... and agree that the posts/threads should be merged into one.

Well, my car is a 23 with 13k miles.

I think @TheMarkedOne's Z is a 24. Not sure the miles.

I wouldn't expect failure here to be specific to time or milage.
