That just means less weight for more zoom!

;)
Honda advertised thinner glass & thinner paint as weight savings features of the S2000.

Is this a joke post? I can't believe this is being discussed.
its a forum where you discuss things, if you don't have anything to contribute than shut up.

I've used Safelite on my other car when the front glass cracked. I don't know about OEM quality but it's been on there for about 5 years now. It will be something insurance has to cover. I assume a rock or something hit your glass while driving?

Not so fast..... I had a windshield replaced as a warranty claim a long time ago on my 1991 Nissan Sentra. The OP never said how or where it was broken. If it's a rock, it's obviously an insurance claim. But on my car, a crack appeared out of nowhere one day (nothing that I know of hit it), it was at the bottom by the wipers. The crack stemmed from the edge of the glass inwards, and there was zero evidence of any impact damage. They originally didn't want to cover it, but after I showed them that it was obvious that it was probably some pressure point on the mounting surface from the factory, they agreed to cover it. So the OP's question isn't as ridiculous as you think.

And what is that saving about 2 lbs?
Yeah probably something like that.

They did a bunch of little things like that with the C5 Z06. The trunk also had pockets that were covered with these flat plastic pieces wrapped in fabric to match the carpet and snapped into place. Z06 did not have those covers. So the trunk area was not flat, had 3 big wells in it.

They used different materials for some of the hoses too. Lots of things were Z06 specific back then but you could replace with normal Corvette stuff on most things at least.

To be fair, I think the glass on the Z is bad. Mine is, anyway. If you look at it with just the right angle, you can see thousands of micro bubbles in the windshield glass. I don't normally see this sort of thing on cars until they're 10, 15 years old? Mine sat for over 400 days inside a showroom and it now lives in a climate controlled garage. If I ever have to replace mine, I'll just take whatever they give me, because anything will be better than the OEM one I have.

Weight savings is one thing, but the windshield is higher than the center of gravity... so weight reduction there does compounded effects on stability and traction because the car's not weighted as high.

Case in point, the Dodge Demon 170 can run an 8.9s quarter mile with the CF wheels, one seat interior. If you put a sunroof on that car, it loses 3 tenths because the COG raises and prevents optimal weight transfer to the rear.

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like I'll just wait until the crack becomes an actual issue. It's def a rock chip or something like that. I didn't think it would be covered underwarranty after reading my warranty paperwork. I just wanted to double check. Thanks :)

ive probably had that same type of rock issue at lease 3 times. with 2 vehicles under 2 different insurance companies and every time they paid the $40-60 directly to the repair shop with no cost to me.

they explained that they would rather pay the small amount to keep from cracking out and having to replace it for hundreds in the future. the repairs were hard to locate afterwards. take it to a shop and they will probably do all the paperwork

Best defense is to keep a repair kit and jump on those rock chips asap. Like any low car your gonna see more action with that and paint chips.

Occasionally the few ignores I have on this board are validated.

I come here to talk all things Z and learn. No room for negativity in my brain.

One time I threw something onto my dashboard of my 1993 Plymouth Laser and it broke my windshield. Safelite came to my house and replaced it for like $150 bucks back then and did a great job very quickly.

Those were the days of simple windshields, not these amazing things we have now.
