Fresno"s pretty far from Poway (6 hours according to Google, and you have to drive through the LA metro area ?). Otherwise, I suggest to head to Mossy Nissan Poway. They were nice enough to adjust these for me without charge.

I agree this should be an end user-controllable setting, but I don't see Nissan exerting the effort for such a low volume car. I'd love to be proven wrong. I've had my car for two plus years already, and not a single update.
Thanks for the info, I’m so glad to hear when owners have a positive experience with their Nissan dealer. I rarely get down through LA, yes it would be at least 12hrs round trip, probably more due to LA area traffic.

Here in Fresno, the dealer outlet on the main drag closed & combined with the same owner’s outlet nearby in Clovis. I bought my Nismo in Clovis just before they combined. So I’m sure they need to make money out of everything, especially the service department. They are overwhelmed and are driven to ignore requests that take time & wouldn’t add to the bottom line. They’ve also started charging for running the OEM diags / scans on faults just to tell you what’s wrong. On another Nissan I own, they insisted I buy a new battery from them and pay for diagnostics before they were willing to run scans on the car. ?

I guess I’m a ā€˜don’t ask, don’t get kind of guy. If more owners escalate the request, there’s hope they could add existing menu code to make it an option. It actually may be there, but we haven’t found it in ā€˜secret menus’. I’ve tried, but it wasn’t there in the menu I got to…

I’m crossing fingers for a code update. I’d love to turn the options on/off to hear what it does in real time. I also find the option menus extremely ’clunky’ and not at all intuitive.
Best wishes.

So wait, the sound does improve when you guys turned off the ASE??

I know everyone at my dealership but if it’s worth it I can try to ask them to do it.

The manual is wild about not covering the speakers, microphones or change them and the amplifier. Their verbiage does feel like they can void any warranties from modifying anything audio based which leaves us somewhat stuck.

Me honestly speaking, changes like this on the UI will probably be made available on future models. I’ve dealt with something similar when I got the 2016 maxima, everyone wanted CarPlay and android auto and a bunch of us complained to nissan. Their response was completely upgrading the head unit on the newer 2017’s. I remember people swapping them out back then but still, maybe that’ll be our luck with future Z models If they implement them like that.

Sorry to necro but wanted to update with my experience.

I decided to take the car for its after break-in oil change to the dealer because I want ASE and ANC turned off. I am too nice of a person and wasn't going to stand there arguing with the service manager but they charge an hour diagnostic and at their diagnostic price it was about 3 times an oil change to get these turned off. They were adamant that it takes "every bit of an hour" to have it done. Showing them pictures or explaining to them how it doesn't take that long was to no avail.

So just wanted to let anyone else know that was curious about it that dealers are still a mix when it comes to having this done. I am really glad I did it though because the car is much more tolerable without the V8 noises being pumped into the cabin. I hear a bit more air noise but that doesn't bother me. You can actually hear the sound of the engine in the car as well much better. Excited to get the mods rolling in the near future.

Also they put 36 PSI in each of my tires, lol. Hopefully the last time my car goes to the dealer since I only did it to get those things turned off.
My local dealer said the same for $198/hr ... not doing. I have found software and usb for ~$200 that can do the tuning that the dealership does. I haven't bought it yet, still in the break in period and it will probably void the warranty if they (nissan) find out. But I have it installed on a laptop and ready to go.

Yes. Because ASE is what Nissan calls the fake engine noises. To turn it off you have to get the dealer to do it (as far as we know so far)… or cut a wire in the harness that gives the Bose audio amp a speed signal from the ECU. No signals, no Active Sound Enhancement (digital engine sounds).

If you replace the Bose Sub in the wheel well with a powered Sub, it becomes unbearable. I hear it as a base flutter. Obviously changing out the car head unit will also stop both ASE and ANC.

ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) is beneficial- afaik. It’s like what a pair of noise cancelling headphones does. It listens to the microphones in front & rear and puts a sound through the amp that cancels out road noise. And wind noise, which the Zs suffer from especially at highway speeds. You don’t want to mess with the mics, they’re used for speech commands and when you talk on the phone.

So my Advice is: Set ANC ON and ASE OFF.
But you do you. I just wanted to make this all clear as I understand it. We just need to find a cheap way to set the options without hacking harness wires.

If everyone complains to their Nissan Regional Manager, it may appear as a future option once the car updates software menus. The options are there on the GTR menus, so Nissan can add it if they choose to.

This is, I believe, the best set up. That's what I did.

Are you using VXDIAG? Which version of consult are using? the version does not require a user login / pw?

I hate the idea of ASC, but actually didn't mind the tone/sound of the artificial engine note. It definitely wasn't a Turbo V6 (lol) but it sounded tough.

I turned mine off when I upgraded the sub (as I've said elsewhere, this is mandatory, or your ears will literally bleed...) but I also did exhaust at same time so couldn't really compare before and after.
I can say now that I don't miss it at all.

The wind noise in this car is absolute shit. Pretty typical of cheap japanese builds though - wouldn't get it in Euro cars (Z4upra et al).
I'll eventually throw sound deadening all over it, but it'll be one of the last things I do.

Can also confirm that it requires dealership to disable ANC/ASC. For now at least.
Takes them less than a minute. No one should be paying for it...
I had a question. Why would having this on with an aftermarket sub make your ears bleed. New to this platform

I have not bought the VXDIAG, but I have installed the free consult below:

http://blog.vxdiagshop.com/2024/06/...issan-consult-3-plus-v241-software-and-patch/

I am researching and pricing VXDIAG:

does the 241 version require a user login and password? So looks like you just need to buy the wifi interface to make changes without connecting online with nissan.

looking to buy the same wifi interface for $200

I haven't had to enter a user/password, but the install won't be complete until I have the VXDIAG.
Let us know if you buy and finish before I do!

If you're serious I'll email my guy and let him know! Greenville, SC Nissan dealership. Ask for Austin W - his desk is about 2 or 3 from the furthest end of the drive-in bay

I dropped in after work today and found his office by just looking around - i saw ā€œservice directorā€ on the glass window. He is super nice.

He was going to do it right then but i was in my taco. He told me to come back Tomorrow afternoon and he would hook me up at no cost. I printed a copy of the screen shot posted in this thread. he grabbed a service tech walking by his office and the guy said no problem - they knew what i asking for when i said ā€fake engine soundsā€ like a toy car for a 3 yr old.

That's awesome. Austin to my knowledge isn't a service director but a service manager so it's awesome that they are helpful all the way to the top!
