Hey Everyone, I was wondering if anybody out there has experienced any low end torque loss after installing a cat back exhaust? Right now I’m running a Remark axle back on my 24 Z auto. I’m thinking about doing the remark resonated mid pipe and Y pipe to complete the cat back. The stock exhaust piping is very small and the remark bumps it up to a 2 1/2 compared to 1 3/4. However, I’m worried about low end torque loss. I do most of my driving around town. I don’t spend a whole lot of time in the upper RPMs. If anybody out there wouldn’t mind helping me out on this I would appreciate it. Thanks.

If any torque loss, would be minimal. I have the 2.5" Stillen and haven't noticed coming off stops and at lower rpms on streets. I'll check it soon on higher gears up grades and hills, see if rpms drop easier off 5th or 6th. Now, if you go to a 3" piping, I think more noticeable torque loss, can't verify it. But so far from stops the Z still leaps like it was before, 1st and even 2nd gear take offs are negligible in comparison. The Y-pipe instead of straight dual will help retain torque too.

Hey, I appreciate the reply. The Remark cat back is the same design as factory just larger piping. And like you mentioned, I have read that a Y pipe set up usually makes a little more torque down low. I guess increasing the diameter of the piping is what I’m really worried about, but on the Z, the factory exhaust is so small so in my mind it would benefit from the larger diameter. However, the engineers who designed this car thought the 1.75 diameter exhaust was adequate. It is still one of the smallest exhaust systems I’ve ever seen on a car with 400 horsepower.

I did the muffler delete like you (generic brand). I was going to do the REMARK but chosen the lower cost. I haven't seen any power loss. I do like the sound more. The stock was like I was driving a Camry.

Do you have an auto or manual? To me the auto cars exhaust isn’t bad, but I still wanted a little bit more volume. The manual cars are definitely very quiet with that huge muffler in the rear. Do you have the EOS brand? That’s the one that I was going to buy at first. However, I looked on eBay and I bought the Remark for only $200. The guy that was selling it had it on his car for about a 1000 miles and then ended up putting a Nismo exhaust on.

I've got 3" MBRP and I don't have much if any torque loss at low rpm. the sound makes it worthwhile anyway. didn't like driving a sports car that sounded like a shopvac

I kind of prefer the EOS because you can adjust the tips. The Remark is all welded together, which is nice but I wish I could stick the tips out just a tad bit more.

Thinking about one of those two options myself (EOS or Remark). Jake, you don’t by chance still have your OEM axle back laying around in decent shape do you? Also interested in that option :)

Yes, I actually do have the OEM axle back. Excellent condition. Only has about 2000 miles on it. I may consider selling it. I almost put it up on marketplace but never took the time to do it. I guess I could put that money towards the Remark mid and Y pipe.

The most restrictive part of the factory exhaust system is actually the lower downpipes. So. Going with a cat back exhaust shouldn’t change anything in a negative direction. Also. The more you open up the exhaust on a turbo system, the more the turbine becomes the restriction which causes quicker spool and therefore more power earlier on. With ours the waste gates are controlled electronically so without a tune you don’t really take advantage of this, but still people usually see more power across the board. Our turbos are tiny and are the limiting factor.

I have 3in LDP+ 2.75inch CBE with no low end torque loss, if anything throttle is more responsive.

Hey y’all, this is all good info. I really appreciate all of the replies. More experiences are definitely welcome. I am leaning towards going ahead and getting the other remark pieces that I need to complete the cat back. If it wasn’t my daily I would probably do something like the Stilleen comp cat back, but I know the interior noise would drive me crazy pretty quick. Stilleen makes a street series, but it would be cheaper for me to purchase the remark mid pipe and y pipe. And this is just some personal preference, but I really don’t like the look of the canister style muffler in the rear.

For those that have done the axle back muffler delete, how much louder is it on a performance automatic? I don't want to piss off the neighbors but I would like for the car to be louder on the street especially when driving spirited.

Also for road trips would the axle back muffler delete create a too loud of environment in the cabin cruising on the interstate at 80mph for long stretches?

No idea - A better option maybe to replace the mid pipe with a m/t version or a aftermarket catback

im guessing the muffler delete on an a/t is not much different volume wise but will gain some drone because the a/t axle back cross pipe is tuned to eliminate drone.

My M/T with the A/T muffler added decent volume and on highway @3k+ you can hear the exhaust but not in a bad drone way. you will be quieter than a m/t due to the resistors.

and the drone may increase on the highway for an A/T due to the lower rpms. But I doubt you will notice with music going.
