Has anybody put the Nismo exhaust on a Performance. If so, did it make a significant difference it the tone.

There is no specific Nismo exhaust. The Nismo has the same exhaust as the Performance Auto.
There is a Nismo street and a Nismo track exhaust system available as a factory aftermarket option (made by Borla). Unsure if OP is referring to those or the Nismo trim muffler.

To be more specific, I put an after market axle back on my nismo and was wondering if putting the orignal nismo exhaust on a performance would be worthwhile for a different exhaust sound. I do another axle back for the performance but had the thought of using the nismo exhaust instead.

The exhaust on a Nismo is the same exhaust that’s on the performance 9at.

The Nismo exhaust made by Borla is really no louder than the exhaust that comes on factory Z's with the 9 AT. The only exhaust that I found that brings out the volume with keeping stock down pipes is the Stillen competition exhaust.

I just did exactly this. Nismo Street exhaust installed on a Performance w/MT. I had the fake sound and equalized audio both disabled when I took delivery of the car. In my experience, the Nismo exhaust made a night-and-day difference. It is much more enjoyable to drive, and now I can actually hear the exhaust.

I wouldn't have gone with the Nismo exhaust if I was planning on doing more significant mods - I would have gone with a true 3" exhaust for that. But, I'm not looking to modify this car beyond the exhaust and just wanted something to improve the sound. The Nismo exactly met my needs -- it's a great, racy sound, but not over-the-top. It's really how the Performance should have come from the factory.

<Edit - I mis-read the original post. I bought a Nismo-branded "Street" Exhaust and installed it on my M/T Performance. This was not a Nismo Z take-off part.>

I did the same, +1 on your assesment. I love the sound of my Nismo Street. The Borla S type has 2 1/2ā€ pipes, the Nismo Street has 2 1/4ā€ pipes. The Nismo Street is not an off the shelf rebrand of the Borla S type

you can switch the a/t mid pipe for a m/t mid pipe to add volume. i switched out my m/t axle back for the stock auto axle back.

by switching out the a/t mid pipe you would basically have a straight pipe setup - no resonators and no muffler.

But if you are going to change the exhaust, i would go ahead and un-cork it all the way - lower down pipes & catback.

If anyone in the Houston-area wants a M/T midpipe, you can have mine.

I just put on the A/T axleback today and I’m going to add the A/T mid pipe on my M/T performance. It isn’t that it’s way to loud (maybe just a little), I just find the drone to harsh from 2000 to 3000 RPMs, over 3k it actually seems to mellow out nicely. Plus I noticed the sound made the seat have a vibration as well as certain harsh frequencies don’t get muffled out (clearly not designed to be as opened up, definitely needs the resonated mid pipes to take out the harsh frequencies). Will try to report back after the mid-pipe install next week! I would suggest to anyone looking to get a much louder exhaust this one isn’t the one to buy; get a cat or axle back 3rd party option that engineers out the harsh drone frequencies but still gives you the volume you desire. I now think the A/T option is a perfect OEM choice for someone with a M/T that wants a slightly louder throatier option but do the resonated mid-pipes!
