What reason did you choose the Nismo clutch from a 370Z into the Z?

R154 5sp trans is the best hands down. V160/161 6sp trans was good, but they didnt stick around very long

RZ34 OEM clutch is a heavy pig. Could be related to the Rev Hang and trying to get the clutch to match the engine during disengagement

Im at 12k and still having Shift 1st-2nd issues when cold. Very notchy and/or not going into 2nd. Sometimes I have to granny shift or double clutch for it to go in. After warm up, its back to normal. 2nd-3rd when high revving is an issue and I dont shift fast anymore. Im thinking its related to Rev hang.

What fluid would you go with?
I do plan on switching to the lighter Z1 OE clutch and maybe the flywheel as well
Not a 370 Clutch but a Z NISMO Clutch. I'm looking at Z1 bigger turbos and 700RWHP or more.

I've heard a lot of 'noise' lately about UniClutch. No idea how good they are or what, but its a novel idea, seems to be the way to have your cake and eat it. If you are wanting a smooth pedal feel with all the benefits of extra grip, might be worth looking into?

Not saying its a solution, but it's a possible idea.

Noted on the flywheel

What audible noise are you experiencing?
A more pronounced noise of the shifter going into that particular gear. It doesn't give physical/audible feedback that its grinding or anything, but it isn't as smooth or quiet as the others. Like I said I think its a fluid issue because the only thing that would change with it smoothing out and going away is the fluid getting up to temp, at least that I can think of.

I'm not hearing any of the audible symptoms at rest when engaging or disengaging the clutch pedal. Pretty convinced at this point its fluid/temperature dependent, as the sound goes away after its had a half an hour or so to warm up.
I’ve had a car that clutch material in the lube caused stiction on the output shaft and as the funky material heated up, the clutch shifting got better and better.

Do you feel any grit when pushing to the floor when it’s cold?

Nope; I'd be really surprised if Nissan managed to mess up a fluid fill at the factory for a car that was made less than a year ago though. But the pedal feels great, its just that damn 1-2 and 2-3 shift (2-3 moreso) that like to announce its arrival.

Getting into Reverse is really. pain for me. I had a 370 for 15 years and was fine with Reverse, A tiny bit of an issue on occasion butoush, shift and push into gear , all fine. the Z, A different story, not smooth.

The more I drive the The more I hate the transmission. If I double clutch like an old person, it works fine. Faster shifts and it takes some pushing to get into gear, especially 2-3 and 3-5. 5-6 not that much fin either. I sat in my garage and tried 5 times to get the car into reverse. Definitely pressed down on the knob, definitely moved the right, finally got into reverse. I have notified my dealer. Not happy at all. Pay no attention to earlier comment about smooth. I have read about two people who have had their transmissions replaced vis the dealer.

Someone suggested I switch my Titanium shift knob for a weighted shift knob. Saying that the weight would provide for smoother shifts

Might give er a go, report the results after

You absolutely should not have to do that. It should shift quite easily direct from the factory. MY 280Zx Turbo, 300 ZX Twin and 370Z all did. My Z Performance, notes much or not at all..

I saw this post get refreshed yesterday and thought I'd update. This may be a placebo, but I swear the shifting has gotten better on cold starts. I still wouldn't quite say its as smooth cold as other transmissions I've driven or that its cured itself, but potentially this may have just been an extended break in.

Car is at 11,000 miles as of now. Part of me still wants to do a fluid swap though, as I'm betting this factory fluid is anything but great.

I put in the RedLine MT fluid recommended by Z1.

Mine always shifted fine. Never had any of the issues mentioned anywhere in this thread.

Yeah, that's weird. Its a very audible noise going into 2nd and even moreso 3rd. Not a grinding noise but for some reason the normal gear change noise seems significantly amplified. Not unlike some cars that have that loud click/clank when going into reverse (you know, the noise you can hear outside the car watching someone back out of your driveway, for instance.)

So you use Redline MT? Isn't that a different viscosity from the factory spec?

It's in the spec. It is GL-4, so that's the important part.

Did anyone mention the “short shifter” option? Z1 has one for $200 that’s rubber dampened and reduces the throw by 1/3.
The Cons: You may have to change the shift knob, I’ve heard you can destroy the OEM one trying to get it off the stock shifter. You will need a lift or jackstands to get to a bolt holding the shifter in place on the tranny fork just above the prop shaft. But other that those caveats, it’s an easy job.
Pros: While it’s apart, you can adjust the top plate (like a gate) for correct reverse selection and help the 1st-2nd shift on the new shifter. If you like a more positive feel and a short throw, it’s probably your cuppa tea. 🫖
