Mine is brand new with 17 miles right now and I can attest about the notchiness. If you're precise enough it's smooth. Once the car is warmed up it gets slightly better. Maybe it's a Nissan thing? My 400 whp evo ix with stage 3 clutch was smoother 😄

1st to 2nd is not smooth. My Z33 was the same way. Can't speak to the 370. Either way, I look past it.

Only manual I've ever driven with this issue. I thought it was just a Nissan thing or Z. I have even driven a Fiat 500 (imagine clown car) and the shift was flawless.

Mine is the same way. 1st to 2nd is notchy and the rest of the gears are grindy sometimes. It's the worst brand new transmission I've experienced but being a Nissan and Z I knew that before I bought it lol

After driving more than 4,000 miles on my 2024 Z Performance and changing the Clutch to the NISMO clutch, I take back everything I said about smoothness. Double cutting not helping very much. Definitely notchy and a royal pain to get into reverse. I'm having Nissan look at it next week.

So you’re saying both Nissan and Z you would expect to have a junk transmission? Curious why you bother talking about said transmission if it is exactly what you expected.

Anyway….

Fist to Second and Second to Third are really the only times I notice it, seems to go away after the car has been on for awhile and up to temp for the most part.

Makes me wonder if Nissan just went with a not so great transmission fluid from factory. Part of me wants to put some XT-M5-QS in there and see if that makes any difference given how much its touted in the other communities. Granted it did make colder shifts worse in two cars I tried, but those were fwd platforms; the rwd ones I've tried seemed to work out well.

Might be worth a try, but I think the viscosity is slightly different, so the potential warranty issues have me wondering if I should hold off. Might take the plunge and try it anyway.

I had a 370Z with twin turbos etc and now a 24 Z Perf. I've had the same mechanic since 2010. I'll check with him re fluids.

So far I'm pretty happy with the manual in my 24 Z Performance. I didn't drive an automatic Z to compare, I definitively like it better than either of the 6 speed transmissions in my STI's ('07 and '17), and better than any VW or Honda I've driven. I finally got on it the other day and had no problem hitting the 1st to 2nd shift at WOT a couple times, and in day to day driving feel like most of the time the car is pretty easy to drive smoothly...

I do notice an occasional and somewhat slight mechanical 'clunk' type of noise when I upshift to 2nd, but so far it's only been when the car is cold and I might have lugged it a little bit? I didn't necessarily think it sounded bad, I'd say it's also pretty sporadic.

Than what? It already blows both the Ford MT-82 in the Mustang out of the galaxy and is way way better than the Toyota manual in the GR86/BRZ.

I’m wondering if people expect these transmissions to shift like a FWD Honda. I’ve driven the revised Z manual twice now and had not a single complaint. Nothing at all. The angle of operation could be slightly better, but that’s getting really picky.

Manuals get notchy. You change the fluid. And you change it to something very good like Redline. Then when it gets notchy again you change the fluid again. It’s the same story spanning 100+ years in the car world.

Could be something causing the pressure plate not to completely disengage. Most of my cars have been manual, but I tent to keep cars until they're almost dead, so I don't know about a bunch of different makes & transmissions. My '03 Z33 had a similar-ish issue...not sure. 3rd to 4th was clunky, and 5th to 6th was clunky AND sometimes grindy. With the shift to 6th I'd sometimes have to leave it out of gear, release the clutch, press the clutch again, then shift to 6th. It had something to do with the pressure plate not completely disengaging. Not sure why that would affect specific gear changes though. It was under warranty, so they replaced some parts including the transmission itself.

I have no clue if this scenario points to anything, but when you shift, press the clutch, move if out of gear, release and re-press the clutch, then upshift. Curious if it's smoother that way. Not that it's a solution, but could point to something systemically wrong and not just a 'notchy gearbox/transmission' thing.

Ive owned a lot of manual cars and I have to say the z isnt that great for shifting hard. 1st-2nd you cant bang super hard or it doesnt really want to go in. Ive been drag racing manual cars for 17 years and have thousands of passes under my belt so its not a "you dont know how to drive manual" issue. Its more of a the car doesnt like to party issue. If you take your time a little bit its no problem. Now just regular driving around town shifting at 3-4k ect is completely fine and I dont find it in any way bad. I think its actually pretty good in that respect. Now the rev hang on the other hand... thats gotta go. Im assuming its the heavy flywheel causing that issue.

Double clutching always works.
