That generation of WRX is notorious for rust, especially the rear strut towers.

My wife had a 9-2x daily driver, she was going around a sweeper and the rear strut shifted causing her to spin out.
I could see that. I just changed my struts so that is okay now.

@71zman First of all congrats!!! And please tell me you tested the speakers. Is the Bose upgrade as garbage of a sound system as some reviews are saying? Big audiophile and really interested.

I turned it all the way up. Fade to rear + 2 notches…treble up +4…bass +2. All
The way up to max volume.. played Santana, Loverboy, Avicci, Pavaratti,
John Prine etc etc.
Etc etc.
Sounded perfectly good to me. Although I think it could be louder:)

Can you let us know if you’re experiencing that previously reported 2nd gear crunch? Even a hint of that is a deal breaker for me.

That’s extremely reasonable. I would go for it if I had the opportunity. I can’t find anything for less than $100k or so right now.
More than reasonable for a limited production run Z. Hell I would buy one if I could find a proto with only an $8500 mark up too. Nearest dealer in my area wants $75k on top of the Proto MSRP.

So one Proto for $130k + tax or 3 base Zs with money left over for some mods? ?

Man how are you dealing with the rust monster and all those older vehicles in the midwest? Just having my old CJ parked in the driveway, the rust still won't leave it alone.

I've had a lot of rust related problems here in Chicagoland, especially with all the salt used on the roads. I promised myself, the next older vehicle I buy, will be from New Mexico or some other such place low on rust.
I grew-up in Ohio, have moved around the country, and now live in NC. I don't think it's possible to avoid the rust if you drive a car in those areas (IN, IL, OH, MI, etc) in the winter with the salt and brine usage. I even rent a car if I have to go to OH in the winter to see family.
