The second-biggest disappointment for performance enthusiasts will be the 2024 Nissan Z NISMO's 3,704-pound curb weight, making it the heaviest new Z you can buy. That's 102 pounds heavier than the next portliest trim and 218 pounds heavier than the lightest model.
There's good news, however. The incremental power gain is still enough to drop the weight-to-power ratio to 8.8 pounds per horsepower from 9.0 in the Z Performance automatic, and that figure is tied with the Z Performance manual. It's not as good as the Z Sport manual's 8.7, but it's moving in the right direction.
Nissan doesn't specify where the additional weight comes from, but Hawson confirms it's mostly the structural bracing in the front, rear, and under the rear floor. Nissan says the reinforcements, which are mostly additional welds, adhesives, and foams, are good for a modest 2.5-percent increase in torsional rigidity, at least. The bigger oil cooler and extra oil also contribute to the weight gain, as do the larger front brakes.

Performance wise, are we thinking this will be on par with the 3.0 Supra?
For costing more than a Supra, I would really hope so but not holding my breath.

just wondering why JDM spec Nismo only gets 420ps* Metric (309kw), which is 414 hp (North Americans used imperial horsepower), while the US-spec got 420hp?
Meanwhile, the horsepower for regular Z is the same for both markets: 400hp/405ps/298kw. The weight for JDM spec is also consistent with US spec, 1680 kg=3,704 lbs

The power is the same on both cars it's just something weird with the rating.

The NISMO GTR was both 600PS and 600HP also

It's nice that Nissan did something, but I don't know why they would make it automatic only. They have the great rev-match feature on the manual, so why not offer that on the Nismo? Their automatic is a disappointment compared to the ZF 8-speed, their engine isn't as strong as the Supra's, the chassis is nowhere near as good. The thing that made the Z special was it's looks, history, and 8/10 fun to drive aspect. A stick shift makes cars fun. I don't think the Nismo will have handling that rivals the Supra's, and it will likely cost more, and it doesn't look as good as the normal Z IMO. Seems much better to take a performance trim version and add aftermarket suspension and PS4S or SuperSport tires to get the balance dialed in.

Maybe Nissan will get the Nismo verision dialed similar to how Ford got the Mustang GT350 dialed in (compared to the regular Mustang GT), but I don't think Nissan put the same effort in the Nismo as Ford did in the GT350 (even when you ignore the special GT350 engine). Hopefully we'll all be pleasantly surprised with the suspension tuning, but I guess I'm not holding my breath.

Ha! sadly, no. Just enough power to match even MORE weight! why? Nissan is committed to making a pretty car show car. Not a serious track car.

More weight, that's muscle car territory, additional bracing why, because chassis is too flexy? And NO manual? Not on my list anymore, it's back to a full GT car.
