Ok, so after feeling rather frustrated and getting more tempted into buying the Elise ( pictures in the link in my other post) I thought…that’s it, I’m gonna go see my dealer and ask what in the heck is going on

would you believe it, walked in and Nissan Corporate Australia was actually there at the exact same time.
without mentioning my thoughts on defection, my dealer saw me coming waltzed up and said…you never guess what they were just telling us about.
The Nissan Z should be in Aus late June early July.

My dealer now has 30 registered orders, but is only expecting to get 6 in for the first run….lucky I’m number 2 on the list

So now I’m going…I can wait till June, by then we should have details all locked in if not a car, and if it’s not then I’ll go elsewhere.

Interestingly he did say that the smaller screen only is not actually locked in yet, and they are not sure if they will get, the bigger screen, and probably won’t know until the car is almost here…so there is hope

Of course I’ll believe it when I see it, not the first time I e been told something, but the fact the corporate guy actually backed him up whilst i was there is positive
How do you feel though, about buying a car (new Z) you've never driven? Or do you have experience driving the 370Z, and figure it won't be much different?

I've never driven a Z car, and won't buy any car without test driving. Sounds like that's going to be a problem for me, until a new Z arrives at a dealership for test driving. Or I eventually flag someone down in a new Z and offer a case of beer for a test drive. :)

That is very interesting. When I first spoke with my dealer (I had some back channel corporate access) they indicated that in the first presale day on Jan 26th (before the national campaign for reservations) for dealer allocations that they had received 10 orders after making their calls to preferred clients. I went in to talk face to face and the messaging I received was that I was number 3 and that I was for sure getting a car. But they seemed to indicate that the first 10 would not all get a car.

Yeah the one I’m looking at is 72k Aus, but 9000 on the clock it’s 2008 so getting old, but rarely driven, paint work and interior impeccable ( in photos at least)
as they have stoped making them, I guess that is why prices are going up on them.

it’s true, from a practice side I’m going to struggle to get my weekly shop in it, but it’s so tempting…it’s there, ready, I could have it in a week if I really wanted ….my impatience is getting the best of me and my heart is over ruling my head.

An older car with 0 practicability now or a spanking new one that will work for what I need it for in. 6months to a year
make matters worse we did use to own a Lotus Esprit that we sold when we had the kids, so much fun to drive….but was a 1980s model so was getting expensive to upkeep and that’s still in the back of my mind

if I just knew for certain I’d have the Z this year..easy decision, but the longer this drags out the more doubt that creeps into my head and the harder the choice is

your link looks sweet…here is the one I’m looking at

So just for reference the Zed performance trim should come in around 50K Canadian dollars. This Elise here in Vancouver is $20k CAD more than a new Zed. What did you say a new Zed was in AUS dollars? And what would that be compared to the Elise at 72K AUS?

We we’re told between 70-80k with 80 probs being the Proto and the other model being between 70-75….so pretty much same same in terms of pricing between the two cars …so yeah, thats another reason it was appealing

I agreee interesting indeed. Given my dealer had 30 orders in, and is only expecting 6 first up AND that orders are still open in Australia…you have to ask yourself, how long will some of these “pre orders” have to wait

I’m fine with getting sight unseen.
live driven stacks of sports cars in the past, after the initial 30 min, find myself quite at home in all, from Honda, to Lotus, to Peugeot, Miatas…I’ve never felt uncomfortable yet, actually that’s a lie. The one car I found no enjoyment from after test driving last week was the mini, no Idea why…just wasn’t fun

Im not going to the track, it’s for pure enjoyment on my daily rides, and take it up into the hills or into winery territory for a nice weekend out.
Perhaps if I was tracking it, I would think differently …but I won’t be

If someone told me that 2005 Elise was the same price (45k-50K CAD) I'd be going down tomorrow and inking a deal. They could take my Cayenne S V8 and I'd drive away in a 1.8 4pot. The Zed could wait. I've had three of them already and the Elise is a rare animal. At 20K above a brand new Zed it is just not worth it. I've heard the road feel is intoxicating.

Incidentally, there is an early 2000s base boxster, 30,000 km for $22,000 CAD and although its not much for power, my old boxster was the best road experience I ever had. Way better than any of my Zeds. And the Elise is supposed to be an order of magnitude better.

Yeah…it’s hugely tempting especially in the condition it’s in.
There are two things stopping me
1…as stated in another state and a LOT of phaffing around to get it here, I have to trust a third part inspection because I can’t get there to inspect it myself
2…this will be my daily drive so yes…shopping etc is a real consideration

I have my husband saying wait for the one that will suit me more in practicality…my 20 year old is saying get the Elise
As I said, the Lotus started to cost big bucks to upkeep before we sold it. A lot of the parts were not even available anymore meaning we had to get things made to fix issues ….and ours was in fantastic condition for its age…sooo that also plays in the back of my mind

I haven't driven an Elise in forever. Well, I drove an Exige. I was curious since I had a 2k Celica GT-S so I was interested in how the 2ZZ performed when supercharged. It was a good motor. Really competitive with Honda then.

Anyways, my interest too is waning at this point. Nissan doesn't seem to care outside of a Superbowl ad. Like where is the information on this car? It's spring, it's supposed to be on sale in spring. Spring can mean June, but I mean, come on. This has been dragging on far too long. Seeing red flags.

I've been looking around myself more.

The real problem in Canada is that no one will finance an older car. Nissan will come out with great finance rates. Unless everyone is bringing their bankcard in to pay cash for the Zed? To my mind this is the central issue. As a corp type I would never tie up that much cold capital in a depreciating asset when there are more lucrative things to sink it into like real estate.

Bro, spring started 3 weeks ago when I mowed the lawn for the first time.

Good luck to looking around. The market hasn't recovered in the slightest. Yet.

Im just going by technicals on spring season haha.

I'm seeing M240is and 86s starting to pop up now. The M240is usually don't have mark up on them even. Some of the 86s do though. This "just in time" manufacturing cycle really screwed us consumers, and now we're suffering from it more than the makers.

I literally just stopped by my dealership today and they said they wouldn't be surprised to see it slip into fall now since they haven't heard any concrete information yet. Even he said this is really poor management by Nissan.

I finally met the sales manager at my local Nissan dealership.

He straight up said they are completely in the dark. And, despite ordering opening up for Airya, Nissan hasn't communicated much to them about that vehicle either.

I asked if anyone has asked him about the Z and he said there's very little interest in it, at least this particular dealership.
