Complaint about the Z release

I owned an NA (97) back in the day, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Remains my favorite car to this day, set the bar so high for others.

Car was such a treat to drive—hyper focused on the driver experience behind the wheel, not to mention so easy to work on the rare times it needed anything. I tried to sit in a ND2 recently and could probably fit if I did what I did to my NA (bolt seat to floor, QR + smaller diameter steering wheel). Would probably just try the rail trick first to see, since the cabin definitely felt a little more spacious.

All of this makes me think I'd probably be happy with a GR—with a little boost it down the road—but I've always wanted a Z so I'm seeing this through.

Im so temped by the Elise, it’s in beautiful condition and a stunning colour, to be honest I probably would have given in and bought it already had it not been on the other side of the country, which means paying and trusting a third party inspection, transporting it here, re registering in my state and taking it over the pits to be allowed to do so…it’s a huge amount of phaffing around…and it’s a little older. So I have decided to wait for a few months, if the Elise isn’t gone, and still no progress on the Z then I’ll put in a lower offer and see what happens.

Its sad…we were all so excited, but now the excitement is turning into frustration.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I went and re-watched all of the Elise youtube reviews. There is one for sale in here Vancouver with 33,000km, 2005 for $69,900. No financing (to speak of) and no warranty. I have wanted one forever. But what do you do when you want to take someone on a weekend trip that is 3-4 hours each each way? No luggage capacity and the ride would kill you. The Zed answers these questions. I used to do 5,000km roadtrips in the 370Z Stillen roadster (part of the reason I'll never to H&R coilovers again. Too stiff). But the Elise looks to be an intoxicating option. These Elise's used to be 35k Canadian. Now they've doubled. But if they were release new again they would only be $65k Canadian. All of this makes me think I'd probably be happy with a GR—with a little boost it down the road—but I've always wanted a Z so I'm seeing this through.

I've been keeping the idea of a GR86 on the backburner too. I'd rather the Z on paper, just need some assurance that it drives and reviews as well as it should. Of course the GR86 also not being available here yet makes that decision a bit easier ?

Yeah the one I’m looking at is 72k Aus, but 9000 on the clock it’s 2008 so getting old, but rarely driven, paint work and interior impeccable ( in photos at least)
as they have stoped making them, I guess that is why prices are going up on them.

it’s true, from a practice side I’m going to struggle to get my weekly shop in it, but it’s so tempting…it’s there, ready, I could have it in a week if I really wanted ….my impatience is getting the best of me and my heart is over ruling my head.

An older car with 0 practicability now or a spanking new one that will work for what I need it for in. 6months to a year
make matters worse we did use to own a Lotus Esprit that we sold when we had the kids, so much fun to drive….but was a 1980s model so was getting expensive to upkeep and that’s still in the back of my mind

if I just knew for certain I’d have the Z this year..easy decision, but the longer this drags out the more doubt that creeps into my head and the harder the choice is

In all seriousness, yeah it's why if went GR/Miata, would probably not drive it for long-haul and stick with our current rig for that. Don't know how happy the misses would be with me continuing to take it after we get another car (currently share since I WFH), but cross that theoretical bridge.

Unbelievable, the condition that thing is in. Clearly loved by its current (former?) owner, I'd imagine garage kept, weekend driven, all that. Ugh. Great related watch when you've ~20 min, too -

Well, if it makes you feel any better, there is ONE 6-speed within 1,000 miles of me. Next closest is over 2k miles away. For some reason, dealerships have yet to receive them. Which I find shocking, considering I live in the most populated part of the state.

Ok, so after feeling rather frustrated and getting more tempted into buying the Elise ( pictures in the link in my other post) I thought…that’s it, I’m gonna go see my dealer and ask what in the heck is going on

would you believe it, walked in and Nissan Corporate Australia was actually there at the exact same time.
without mentioning my thoughts on defection, my dealer saw me coming waltzed up and said…you never guess what they were just telling us about.
The Nissan Z should be in Aus late June early July.

My dealer now has 30 registered orders, but is only expecting to get 6 in for the first run….lucky I’m number 2 on the list

So now I’m going…I can wait till June, by then we should have details all locked in if not a car, and if it’s not then I’ll go elsewhere.

Interestingly he did say that the smaller screen only is not actually locked in yet, and they are not sure if they will get, the bigger screen, and probably won’t know until the car is almost here…so there is hope

Of course I’ll believe it when I see it, not the first time I e been told something, but the fact the corporate guy actually backed him up whilst i was there is positive

That is very interesting. When I first spoke with my dealer (I had some back channel corporate access) they indicated that in the first presale day on Jan 26th (before the national campaign for reservations) for dealer allocations that they had received 10 orders after making their calls to preferred clients. I went in to talk face to face and the messaging I received was that I was number 3 and that I was for sure getting a car. But they seemed to indicate that the first 10 would not all get a car.

So just for reference the Zed performance trim should come in around 50K Canadian dollars. This Elise here in Vancouver is $20k CAD more than a new Zed. What did you say a new Zed was in AUS dollars? And what would that be compared to the Elise at 72K AUS?
