The NISMO was/is just too expensive for what you get in addition to the performance model. Z should have ranged from 40-50k.

I was looking at a GR Corolla for my daughters first car. I test drove a few and was not impressed with them. I could see how they could be made better though. No way I could even compare it to the Z. We were looking at the WRX, GRC and the GR86.
She ended up getting a GR86, which I really felt was a better car. The GRC was at the bottom of the list although I thought it was the better looking of the 3.

Everybody has their own feels for vehicles though. I wasn't impressed with the Nismo Z over the Performance or the Sport either.
Lucky kid! Not a bad first car, any of them!

Is the GR Corolla like the Civic vs Civic Type-R, or Lancer vs Evo? When I think Corolla I don't think of quick, nimble or high performance.
Yes exactly, underneath, the unibody is a Corolla but Toyota replaced almost every mechanical part that bolts on with a new performance part.

Bespoke 300 hp 1.5L turbo engine(this engine is really a monster, very close to a pure motorsports engine), AWD, 6 speed manual or some bespoke auto-tragic, stiffer springs/shocks/sways, chassis bracing and extra spot welds/adhesive, unique aero/underbody aero, big brakes with two piece rotors, etc etc.

They're very capable cars and Toyota did a great job hot-rodding them.

There is just something about having a RWD sports car though.

I get the WRX, GRC.. etc. are pretty fantastic rally cars. Who here actually rally's though?...
Heh, heh, heh... I sure don't, unless you count battling the local lunatics on the freeway. I don't track or do anything close, either. Doing a nice cruise in my RWD sweet red Z is nirvana for me. :)

However I do that in my Z - and it is faster, looks better, has a better ride, is not as loud in the cab and has more creature comforts.
Where i live on these roads....NO .
6min onward is my backyard....

Throwing this into the mix, C/D source.

0–60-MPH Times Z
  • C/D 60-mph Test: 4.5 seconds (Z Performance), 3.9 seconds (Z NISMO)
0–60-MPH Times GR Corolla
  • C/D 60-mph Test: 4.9 seconds (six-speed manual), 5.0 seconds (automatic)

I have said from the word go the Z is quicker off the mark.... This one aspect is not a sum of how a vehicle performs overall.

I got to drive a Privately owned NISMO and a GRC on those roads in the above link ( where i live) and i know the roads like the back of my hand as i have lived here for 50yrs and the 0-100 times mean absolutely ZILCH!!

There will always be exceptions. My tuck can go places my Z never could. That doesn't make the truck better or more fun or anything.

Right after the part you quoted me I said we all have reasons for getting what we got.

Also, I bet the Z is fun as hell on those roads in the video.

Yes...absolutely..

I will say if i was to set out on a trip across central Australia on the wide open roads i would take the STD Z over both the GRC and NISMO anyday ....It softer ( comfortable) ride and strong broad power , it would be perfect.

Automatic Z is around 4.0 to 60. The TIRES are the limiting factor for the Z. Again, my automatic Z is every bit as fast as the automatic Supra in a straight line. Had\have both!

There is no way in hell your launching that GR Corolla or GR Yaris manual and hit those times, more like 5.3 and if....

AWD is a beast off the line. Launching an Evo was a violent experience every time!

That's the problem launching a GR Corolla/GR Yaris manual is a feat in it's own, very odd clutch and bite point, there is no way you hitting those launch times, the auto no doubts it will.
