Just ordered the B6A intakes. After all the recon I have done, it seems to be the intake of choice around here. They are on a short backorder, so I am prepping now. Any short cuts or handy tools I need to be aware of? I am reading that the passenger side can be a bit more labor intensive then the drivers side. Any tips will be greatly appreciated!!

Couple long screwdrivers

1/4" drive ratchet set with a few universals.

A thin set of strong gloves. (To prevent little sharp razor edges from taking skin off )

The clips are a PITA. I installed the K&N, and wish I would have went with the open-air (Not boxed) Boosted 6 setup.

Cool. Thx for the input! A couple long flat headed screw drivers? And by Universal, do you mean an adjustable spanner wrench?

Why the regret?

I'm half deaf, so I don't get much of the turbo sound from the K&N filter.

Yeah, someone will come along and say, "OMG! The K&N SCREAMS!"

Well, the open filters would provide me more sound.

Yeah. I'm frigging deaf.

I am too (half deaf (almost)).

Flat heads are to pry open the spring loaded hose clamps, universal as in universal joint for the sockets

Don't almost immediately drop a MAF sensor screw down into the engine, and have to jack the car up on jackstands, remove the 18 fasteners from the undertray, and hope that it ended up making it all the way to the undertray.
Fortunately, it did.

My biggest problem was the driver's side hose clamp on the turbo. I think it was clocked a little further than normal and I couldn't get ANYTHING on it. If you have it. a 6" or longer 1/4" drive wobble extension. Second best would be standard extension with a wobble adapter and short socket. 1/4" u-joint could work too.

If it's like the NISMO, you'll need to remove a plug from the passenger side charge tube to install in the new silicone tube. I tightened that hose before installing the charge tume on the turbo. Not sure if that made anything easier.

! Make sure your hose clamps are on the parts and turned the best way for tightening position before connecting stuff. Trust me, you really only want to do a lot of that stuff once.

You may get frustrated enough to think you would have better access to certain things from the bottom. I already had everything off down there, so I did check. You do NOT.

Good choice, I pretty much always run my mishimotos with the lids off so I'll probably go boosted 6 down the line for even more sounds. It was fiddly but not too bad, the boosted 6 would be even easier without the airboxes.

I didn't find the clips difficult, I just jammed two flathead screwdrivers in and the airboxes came straight out - there are heaps of youtube videos that show how to do it.

I had a bit of trouble getting to the clamp screws to remove and install the hoses to the turbos. I used a really little ratchet on one, and a 3/8" driver with extension and elbow on the other, and I used a really stubby flathead to tighten up below the box. If you've got an assortment of spanners and attachments you'll be sweet.

Removing (or leaving off) the rubber gaskets on top of the K&N airboxes makes a significant difference. I initially had mine off, but then installed them.

All good points! Thank you!

Random question related to the boosted 6 intakes. Will a HKS pod filter fit on the tube in place of the standard filters?

The HKS filters that look like an upturned cereal bowl?
If so, I assume the 80mm (inlet) and 150mm (6") outer diameter one would work. The 200mm one might, idk. That's just shy of 8". You could make room by tweaking the MAF tube position, and the filter position on the MAF tube, and maybe clocking the charge tube on the turbo could help. Unsure if there's enough space for the 200mm/8".
