I couldn't find a thread on these so thought I would post one. Apologies if this has already been covered.

I wanted to get some nicer noises from my Z and was agonising over intakes - the hot air intakes from boosted6 and others sound so good, but according to other threads here the cold air intake vs hot air intake horse has been flogged to death (search if that makes no sense).

I landed on the Mishimoto since you can run them closed with an OEM look, or pop the 3 orings and take the lids off to show the car, or if you just want the noises and heat wash isn't a concern.

I'm a rookie mechanic but I found this install to be fiddly but pretty straightforward. Getting the metal clips off was easy thanks to many youtube videos on the topic, and I could access the left side (drivers here in Australia) worm clamp easily. Getting the right side off took a bit more time and of creativity with extensions and elbows. While they don't look as cool as the nismo or AMS with the lids on, I was pleasantly surprised by the sound even after fitting the lids.

Here are a few photos and a sound clip with the lids off, supported by my car fiend of a 10yo son:

Awesome
I'm Aussie too
What does this do to our warranty
Are you manual or auto
Any other mods?
This sounds like bov without a bov which is exactly what I'd be going for when I finalise my purchase too!!

Great work

Same ones i got running with the lids off for sound. A good amount of turbo suction and bypass valve noise!

I haven't looked into it, but I think it would void the warranty (if they were to find out). I bought my Z 2nd hand specifically as a project car so it hasn't bothered me.

It's manual, running a fujitsubo catback and HKS coilovers just installed yesterday. I'm waiting on the Y pipe to complete the fujitsubo system, and then I've got MAPerformance downpipes to be installed when I get it tuned at CRD.

When the stock tyres wear out I'll throw some wider wheels and PS4s on like a lot of people here have done.

It's a super fun car, you'll love it!

Do you notice any loss of power from heat wash? I suspect it's a non-issue unless you track the car, but since I live in a hot climate I appreciate the versatility of these intakes.

Nothing noticeable at all. I think it would require some particularly extreme conditions for there to be a noticeable issue directly caused by the intakes.

And as this is my daily driver i wouldnt imagine it will ever be near such conditions.

These are great. I keep my covers in the car and will put them on if I have to drive in heavy rain or on a dusty road. Probably makes no difference but I just feel better with the ability to cover the filters. Sound is completely gone once covered though.

I would worry more about putting the covers back on in high heat conditions (summer, track, etc.) more so than rain or dust.

That sounds great. How does it sound driving around?
With the lids on you don’t get much noise inside the car but it’s more than the stock intakes.

With the lids off driving around the car sounds insane! I’ll be surprised if I ever put them back on outside of very hot days.

I know you said rookie mechanic but how rookie are we talking? I'm considering installing intakes on my Z and wondering if I could do it myself as a complete first timer...

I've worked on mountain bikes but never a car. There's nothing technical about the install, if you've got the tools and the patience then you should give it a go!
