Safelite does not use a Nissan OEM windshield they use aftermarket crap from China. I would take my car to a local shop that will install an OEM windshield and just pay the difference. My daughter has a Nissan rogue safelite did her windshield and after six months I’m already having issues with the molding inside and out. I have a 66 Chevy C-10 Safelite would not even install the windshield because they said it would leak. I use a local Shopp and payed out-of-pocket and haven’t had any issues. Unfortunately, anytime a windshield is replaced on a car it’s never the same, your chances are much greater of getting it right with a OEM windshield.

Unfortunately I am about to get my second new screen already. All seemed fine with my local big brand windscreen supplier. no issues with calibrating cameras etc.

You’re half correct.

But you’re taking a chance using Safelite that they will source your windshield from China and it won’t fit properly. Best bet is just spend the extra money and get an OEM windshield and have it put in by a professional shop locally, not some 18-year-old kid that’s worked at Safelite for six months. Most of the glass they provide is OEE (Original Equipment Equivalent) not OEM. You can request they install an OEM windshield, but it will cost you more. If you’re gonna do that, I would just go the local shop route. Just my two cents after having several crappy windshields installed by Safelite technicians.


Fuyago is a China owned company and they source their glass from various locations including China. Depending on the specific vehicle and supply chain needs, the automotive glass you encounter may be produced locally in the U.S. or imported from its operations in China or elsewhere.

2025-2026 I've had 4 pieces of glass from Safelite, all 4 have clearly stated MADE IN USA on them.

They do; Jeep guys use it.

Every piece glass is different, slight variations to the curvature, etc. will distort the camera view/angle. The calibration accounts for this. This is also why you want the vehicle without a heavy load in the trunk during calibration so it's reset back to factory equivalent settings.

How does it hold up to dry or dirty windshield wiping?

I would presume the film is nowhere near as resistant to scratches as glass, and would need replacing every so often, just a guess because even glass eventually develops permanent scratching if it survives long enough.....

They do manufacture most USDM glass in the USA.
Still, GM has a majority shareholder that is Chinese, and since their restructuring, which included the official renaming from GM to gm (lowercase), most gm products are considered subpar (6.2 V8 Mexico and Buick vehicles made in China... Not all, of course (only hear good things about the C8)....

We've discussed this one before, I've had both good and bad experience with FuYao, and just because it's Chinese owned or possibly Chinese made doesn't automatically mean it's subpar, even Toyota struggles with quality nowadays.....

I fully support people who try to buy OEM or avoid stuff made in China, sometimes it's just a personal preference and it costs more to stand on your own principles.....

Fuyao makes OEM glass for many manufacturers domestic & foreign... They're a tier 1 supplier. People need to get over the name, they just don't print it on most OE glass.

You need to replace it every couple years. You should only use the wipers wet. They are hydrophobic and self healing usually too.

Even when wet, the first few wipes can be quite abrasive on a dirty windshield. I usually do a courtesy spray of the washer fluid if the rain is light....
