I was going to have a good day with a buddy installing extended studs today. Rears said, not today ?

The dust shield being in the way didnt give enough wiggle room for 60mm studs to clear. Time to shave off 5mm for clearance

Fronts were the smoothest. Stock lugnuts will fit with 15mm spacers without bottoming out

Finally got everything back together. The 60mm extended studs wouldnt fit the rear without removing the hub. I ended up ordering 50mm extended studs. They fit without taking apart the Ebrake or removing the hub

I havent done anything to the Z since my last posting. Here is a story that I am not proud of.

Not my brightest moment owning the Z this week. My temper got the best of me on Wednesday. I overloaded my clutch for a couple seconds in 5th, then at 7k rpms, shifted to 6th and it had no power to the wheels. And the clutch was soft when I dropped into 4th, hoping it was a minor issue. Lucky, the clutch engaged and the drivetrain was working again and all the gears felt good. Came to a stop, and if you know what a burnt clutch smells like. I'll just say, it was worse than normal. I went under the car and saw no signs of fluid leaking.

The smell took 3 days to go away. Today, the smell is completely gone. I could probably say that my clutch, and possible flywheel is glazed like a donut shop. A few thousand miles was taking away from the clutch.

What would you recommend for an aftermarket clutch? Should I flush the fluid now and put in clean fluid and try to keep the clutch going until it goes out?

My Z is not a manual but I've had plenty of manual sports cars in the past. These cars can take a beating man, no need to be so hard on yourself.

I would just keep driving it like you stole it.

The clutch will let you know when you need to switch it out. A one time event like that is not going to kill it. That loss of power was probably the car saving itself from damage, it was probably a good thing in the end.

That's my take.

Sounds like you overheated your clutch fluid, hence the soft pedal. Flush & bleed with a quality high-temp DOT4 and you'll be good to go. I personally have ATE TYP 200 in mine, but Pentosin Super DOT4 is also good stuff.

Thanks @5amp5on I'll keep an eye on the clutch and see how she acts in the next 10k miles. Im at 17k now.

@KrackaC8 do you recommend ATE Type200 fluid for brakes on a daily driver? I have that ATE Type200 fluid sitting in my cabinet for the past 6 yrs. Guess its time to crack it open and use it 😅

6 years old it belongs in the dumpster; DO NOT use it.

I do like the ATE for daily drivers as it lasts longer (3 years) than most other high-temp DOT4s. I have it in my brakes & clutch across multiple vehicles.

Never been opened. Shelf life on unopened can is 5 yrs. I'll flip a double headed coin and call tails to use or not use 🤷🏽‍♂️
DO NOT USE IT

You cooked your clutch once, why risk it, and your safety, over a ~$20 can?!
