A mod in this forum even suggested it in another thread. Saying it's a GTR filter that's just larger capacity?

Dammit. 15 psi. That's what I get for not checking again. Why would a GTR have a lower bypass pressure?

Different engine, different requirements.

The 9E01A is the ‘09-‘20 GT-R filter, which has a longer can than the Z’s 65F1B/E, and it fits, but I‘m pretty sure it has a lower bypass pressure than the Z’s needs.

Another thing, and I don’t know where the confusion started, but when I first joined here, a couple months before I got my Z, and possibly until shortly after I got it, Z1‘s RZ34 oil change kit came with the 65F0E, which is the 370Z filter, and has a lower bypass pressure like the 9E01A. It’s possible that was just the pics, but I’m pretty sure people here bought that kit and got the 65F0E.

Neither the 9E01A nor the 65F0E will destroy your engine, but they’ll both open up and stop filtering the oil sooner than a 65F1B/E. And from what I understand, fine particulate buildup is what causes the oil pump control solenoid to fail.

I read all those threads in the beginning and I think that's where I got it in my head about the 9e01a. I even have a screenshot saved so I could reference it and get the right filter. I think a lot of people like me also assume that the GTR being a TT Nissan motor will have the same specs as the Z, just a bigger canister which would be a good thing.

The bypass pressure is a huge rabbit hole when you start to factor in regional weather temps and if you're running a different weight oil than the spec'd 0/20. The bypass pressure can also change depending on the type of filter media.

At 24 psi bypass...are our cars in bypass mode at startup? If so, the Mobil filter I have in the car right now won't matter, except in high rpm situations. That would buy me time to swap the filter out with the correct one.

I’m at the local Nissan dealer for some stuff. I thought Michael Douglas was retired. ;)

The bypass pressure rating isn't for absolute engine oil pressure, it's pressure differential across the filter media. Basically, if your oil filter clogs it will cause the differential pressure, or spread, to spike. This is when the bypass valve opens to ensure even with a clogged oil filter the engine remains lubricated.

Oh I know. The more I think about it, the more it seems to me that the bypass pressure is less an issue than I originally thought.

However, AI says that thicker oil and a lower rated bypass valve isn't a good combo. I run 5/30. Then again, it IS AI, so maybe it's an absolutely truth or maybe it isn't. I do know there are a lot of people running the wrong filter, unknowingly like myself.

Had my Nissan dealer install the NISMO heat exchanger and CAI today. All good, and with the NISMO street cat-back already on, I’m good for now. Everything else looked good during service inspection. All green and everything sounds great and running to my satisfaction. Michael Douglas must have been slumming with Hollywood buds today. Nowhere to be found, just his name plate.
