I use this website when looking at staggered tire setup. Gets me a visual of what they will look like on the car. I have lost sleep trying to find right tire combo and looking at wheel width an offsets ?

The UPS guy rang my doorbell and gave me this.

I guess I'll get it installed tomorrow or Saturday. No time today.

This is maybe something To Do....

Came delivered with the new Z in the trunk along with the standard stuff - First Aid Kit, Cargo net, USB kit, flexy lip under bumper - but what is it? Searched but no answers.

There should be 2 of them. They're "air guides" that go under the car in front of each rear wheel. If you look under you'll see the bolt holes.

I never installed mine, they're sitting in a box in my garage.

Edit: Pg 10-17 in the 2024 manual shows them.

Yes I have two of them, thanks! I see them on pgs 385-386 in my 2025 manual. Removed during transport for trailer clearance.

What was your thought process on choosing this one over the hotbox or the JB4

I looked around a lot before pulling the trigger. The Hotbox was cheap...almost too cheap. Kinda didn't feel good about it, if that makes sense. And my budget allowed for a bit more.

JB4...I was heavily leaning this way but it's like an extra $150 or something for the Bluetooth capability and I saw some installs where the wires were spliced. IIRC that's the better way to install it but cutting my factory harness is a no-go for me.

The TruControl was the sweet spot for me. Right in line with my budget, install looked simple enough. @Will-Stillen talked me through some stuff in DM and answered all my questions quickly. That kind of CS scores a few points with me. Matter of fact, I might have a few more questions lol

It's not a perfect system--install leaves a few things to be desired and I'm unsure about a few operational things that aren't explained in the instructions. I have the NISMO cold air intake already and I don't plan on any other mods other than possibly a muffler delete. So I also wouldn't need a reflash or data logs or any of that. I've never had a tuned car before so this plug and play module was also a good baby step for me.

Long post warning!

So I did install this tonight.

I went out to just get a bearing on laying out the wiring and by the time I got that sorted, hell's bells, all I gotta do is swap some connectors.

Took the car out. Didn't feel much different initially and I was thinking I shouldn't have spent that $600ish. Kept driving.

Exhaust sounded different. Better. Louder. Could be a placebo but in my mind, exhaust noise=hp. Did a few more pulls and watched the boost gage. Peaks higher than before so something changed. Screw it, switched to Race Mode...was previously in Sport.

Noticeable increase. Traction Control off. I never do this by the way. 1st gear burnout, short shifted to 2nd, tires still lit up, bang 3rd gear and the tires are still boiling. I didn't keep the throttle down to 7K rpm in all 3 gears so I wasn't as aggressive as I could have been. But I don't think the car would have smoked the tires like that before.

The more I drove it, the better it got. I think the car went through a relearn procedure?

Normal driving, not much difference in power. But the power is much smoother. Much better driveability. I used to blip the throttle from a dead stop a lot of times bc the tip-in off idle response wasn't there. That problem is gone now. When cruising and you let off the gas, the car acts like an automatic now...it wants to stay in motion. I was thinking that would help mpg...but I got gas afterwards and the miles to empty started dropping quicker than before, even though by this time I was driving the car normally.

Probably gonna need a few tanks of gas to see where it levels out.

But I like it so far now.

@Will-Stillen do I need to select Sport or Race from the app on my phone everytime I start the car or does it remember what mode I left it in? It seems like I need to open the app and make a selection each time but my testing around the block tonight was pretty limited...

Decided to weigh my car today to see if my weight saving efforts were paying off....Measured in at 3609 pounds with a full tank, but without the subwoofer or anything in the trunk area that comes with the car.

As for the accuracy of these scales with cars... not a clue

I removed front ones after the dealer installed them. It kept scraping on dips and my driveway. Driveway is on a hill

I hate loose bolts laying around. I just screwed all 6 back in its original locations

Hey,

Thanks for the write up. Yes, sometimes vehicles need a few miles to learn and correct itself. All my cars took about 10-20 miles before I noticed the increase.

The app should save on whatever map you had on before turning the car off.

Hmm. Yeah from my understanding you don't have to actually splice the wire, but it gives additional control that the stillen and z1 hotbox kits don't have, in theory. I was thinking of going to JB4 route once the car is broken...but at that point I might just choose a full tune and downpipes and the new AMS 3.25" intakes they're making. Who knows.
