Hey guys, I feel like I’m definitely overthinking this but, I just installed the AWE touring catback on my car. Love it. But when I’m out and about cruising with it around 45mph, it seems like a large amount of the exhaust sound comes from under me or a little bit behind and below me, but not from the rear of the car. Does that sound normal? It very much is my first exhaust.

My first thoughts:
Are all clamps REALLY tight with no leaks? Were all joints fully seated before clamping? Are you resonator pipes making contact with your black factory steel W-brace (between the X-pipe & resonators)?

I would highly recommend watching AWE's FAQ videos on proper clamp usage, if you haven't already done so.

Id have to double check but I was confident each and every one was full seated tight. And I’m not certain about contact with the W brace, there looked to be a decent gap. There is also a good gap between each resonator.

yes I had already seen it, I only didn’t mark the exhaust with a marker

Also check all weld points for leaks. If you can get under the car while it's running spray some water at the all joints.

Here's what comes to mind for me. I had a 2024 mustang and took out the rear seats. I heard everything after that. Is this your first car that is completely open on the inside? With nothing behind you to block it out I feel like that may be it. I hear a lot in my car too after my cat back.

Yeah it is, previously I had a Honda civic hatchback but I never did the exhaust. I had a feeling it could be from not having a rear seat.

Whoa! That is NOT a phrase you hear very often.

May (or may not) help, but if it’s a leak or something’s making contact somewhere you could have someone rev it a little while you peep around underneath listening for louder noises coming from joints, seams, etc.

This is 100% because there is no back seat to deaden the sound. Promise you.

Maybe you’re describing exhaust drone. Is the sound onset at certain rpm range and outside this range not so much?

LMAO fair. And yeah, I might try and grab some ramps and go under and see. I would jack it up but I don't have jack stands here, did the install at a family member's place

Interesting, is it supposed to be that much louder vs stock? Every video I've seen from the inside and its kinda the same still

Definitelly around 2500-3000 rpm, which is odd to me because the AWE touring definitely has resonators

I’m well aware it’s going to be louder. That’s not my issue, to me it sounds like the sound of the exhaust is almost coming out from under the car or something instead of the rear, it’s loud on the inside. I was expecting it to be loud outside

It's because you have no back seat for the 3rd time now
