Swapping higher resolution backup camera?

Anyone tried upgrading the backup camera to a high res one from one of the other models? Any success?

I’ve read about it elsewhere, it might be the head unit video processor. It’s not just low res but jumpy.

Combine that with its sub optimal placement and usually being obscured by dust or rain, it’s not great.

Do other models cameras have higher resolution? And can the headset in the Z take advantage of it?

There's a YouTuber that installed a higher res camera and it worked. The frame rate is dependent on the head units processor but the image quality depends on the camera itself.

The backup camera on this car is like a 1.3 megapixel digital camera from 1999 if you coated the lens with vaseline.

Glad this was posted, as I've been meaning to look into why it's crap.
This is the first car I've had with a backup camera, so initially I thought it was shmutz on the lens. Shouldn't be dealing with this on a $45K-$70K car in 2025.
Wouldn't surprise me if it was a decision made during the chip shortage to avoid delays and they stuck with it..."There's a pallet of new-old-stock 480x360 PalmPilot components on eBay!".

The video is cool but it does not look like the upgraded camera is being sold anymore. Hopefully someone else can figure it out and sell it here.

I think that yahoo auction was for the camera and the fitment adapter. But any camera should work you'd just have to figure out how to properly mount it.
