The folks at Nissan North America have issued a safety recall comprising a little over 4,000 units of the 2023 Nissan Z and the 2024 model. As it happens, the pop-up engine hood may not activate in the event of a pedestrian crash due to reversed connectors.
More specifically, the connectors for the right-side pedestrian detection sensors may have been reversed in the front bumper harness. By whom? The answer is Nissan workers at the Tochigi plant in Japan, but it's not their fault. The root cause of this blunder is a design drawing error for the front bumper harness terminal layout, which was corrected back in late January 2024.

To this effect, affected vehicles were produced from January 25, 2022 through January 26, 2024. Nissan lists three part numbers in the recall documentation filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: one for 2023 models, the second for 2024 models, and the final part number for the NISMO, which debuted for MY24.

Nissan started looking into this problem at the beginning of 2024. It was prompted by a technician who identified an incorrect diagnostic trouble code when the connectors for the right-side pedestrian collision detection sensors were disconnected from the harness. Instead of reconnecting them as intended, the Japanese automaker has instructed US dealers to replace the front bumper harness altogether. The repair job should take in the ballpark of two hours or less of labor.

I guess the good news is that if you put off the hood popper torque recall, you can get both recalls fixed now with a single bumper remove...unless there's a third hood popper recall we don't know about yet.

or do nothing and your poppers are less likely to go off which is a win

seems it only affects the sensors on the right side. there are a total of 5.

Just dropped off my 2023 Z to the dealer for the 15,000 KMS semi-major service and they informed me they need the car for 2 days due to this recall.

I took my 2024 Z in two days ago, November 12, because I wanted the exhaust checked. They Informed me there is a recall for front bumper fascia so I left it. I called this morning for update and was told part is on “restricted” order which apparently means they don’t know when they expect to get it in. Weird.

Does anyone know if the part is easy to come by or is arrival uncertain? I’m not happy about leaving my car for days, and certainly not weeks.

Yeah. No reason to leave your car sitting there waiting for parts.

I hope they didn't take it apart before knowing if they had the parts to fix it. It's a little strange that they'd even ask you to leave it for recall work also without knowing if they had parts. 🤔

I'm planning my next oil change in Feb. I'll probably call and get them to order the part in Jan.

you will enjoy the fact its less likely the hood poppers( at least the right side) are to go off from a small impact

im never ever getting mine fixed
