Toyota gives in, cuts production forecasts

"Intake: Toyota, for most of the year, insisted it could build 9.7 million vehicles in the current fiscal year, but Thursday bowed to the pressures of a semiconductor industry that isn’t recovering as quickly as Toyota hoped, and said the 9.7 million target is no longer realistic. “In abandoning its target, the automaker said it ‘expects’ to lower its worldwide production schedule for the fiscal year ending March 31, though it did not offer a new target,” said Automotive News. Suspensions in Japan will affect 11 lines in eight plants. Models affected are expected to be Corolla, Corolla Cross, RAV4, Camry, Crown, Land Cruiser Prado and 4Runner, as well as the Lexus LS, IS RC, NX, UX, ES and GX.

Exhaust: Analysts thought Toyota’s predictions may be ambitious, and it turned out they were right. Exactly when there will be enough semiconductors to go around is still anybody’s guess.–Steven Cole Smith"

I know the GRC is built in a different factory, but still wonder if it'll impact the amount made.

If manufacturers can hit 20k price, I'd probably get an EV, for use as our household primary economy car for general urban area driving. That seems the forte for EV these days - an urban household having local (at the house) charging capability and not needing 200+ range.

An EV would probably meet 80% of our driving needs, with hardly ever requiring a remote charge. Then add a couple of petrol utility/fun cars to the household, such as a 4x4 for off-road and hauling duties, along with a sports car for pavement fun and performance.

I got mine (Bolt EUV) for like $24k after all the rebates. Sticker prices was like $36k. They say next year there should be an additional $2500-5000 rebate possibly coming. Like you said, it fits 80% of my driving needs. Can get me to the beach and back on one charge and thats about the farthest I go. Got the Supra for the track and a Jeep for off roading. Thats all I need.

Hey, I have an Infiniti! He hurt my feelings!

I was shocked at how many Infiniti loans are over $1k, however I know they also have low inventory and they are probably pushing the QX80 pretty hard, and that's expensive.....

Honestly I LOL'd when he said that - and I like Infiniti's haha. And I was also like 'HOW....HOW are people paying over $1k for an Infiniti/Nissan'. But I think you are right - they might be pushing that QX80 and probably the new Titan as well for people to be paying that much.

My wife was curious how a couple we knew, were driving around in two expensive blinged out new SUVs. I told her it's nearly always one of these three things: they make bank, family money, or credit. Turned out to be the latter, when the couple got overextended and lost their house.

Anyway, I've known a few people who are big into materialism and bad with money, they just can't say no to buying stuff. It's quite bizarre to see multiple bankruptcies and still the behaviors don't change. Wouldn't surprise if some of those folks are getting sucked into these high car payments.
Agreed.....I think part of the issue for a lot of people are:
1. FOMO - Don't want to miss out on the next big thing - and we don't do ourselves any favors by watching a lot of YouTube (not against it by the way) vids on cars nonstop - its basically free advertising for the manufacturer and we become trusting of those influencers.

2. I also feel that we as Americans have become so used to being in debt - that we normalize things and feel - everyone else is in debt so why can't we live our life the way we want to regardless of if its on a monthly payment.

I once heard (believe my sister told me) that this new generation of kids would own NOTHING and yet be HAPPY about it.. Think it was related to 'The Great Reset' or something.
