I disagree and think this thread is pointless. No amount of "demands" will change the schedule for which Nissan is going to release information regarding this car. My guess is we will get much more information next month (February).

The more we fuss with Dan the more he stays away. Let's keep it to the one thread he's been working with and responding to, cut the noise.

Let's also remember that Dan doesn't HAVE to come on the forum and update us (when he has information he can share). He's doing it because he cares about the fanbase. How many other forums can say the same? To have someone of his stature within a manufacturer as active as he is on this little site of ours.

I can't begin to fathom how busy he and his team is right now, and have been for countless months leading up to launch, so the fact we've seen him more than a handful of times on here is pretty awesome. Can you do us a favor and not spoil that?

Thread title updated/stickied. Let's try our best to post all general questions for Dan here. It is perfectly fine to @ him in another thread if the question is related to the topic of discussion.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation with this, and please understand that he may be unable to answer every question that is asked.

Now that we're within days of being able to order a Z....:

I have some questions regarding the "computer control" junk that is being added to seemingly every new car, save a few American brands:

1) Does the new Z have "lane assist"? If so, can it be permanently disabled (i.e., without it turning back on every time you start the car), and preferably without having a warning light drawing attention where it shouldn't be?
2) Assuming the new Z has "intelligent cruise" (ICC), is its selection/de-selection process similar to other Nissans, where you just hold the ICC button a bit longer for "normal"?
3) Does the new Z have "auto brake" or "brake assist"? If so, can it be permanently disabled, and preferably without having a warning light drawing attention where it shouldn't be?
4) Does the new Z have "blind spot monitoring/warning"? If so, can it be permanently disabled, and preferably without having a warning light drawing attention where it shouldn't be?

Other Nissans seem to be able to disable these; the Altima's ICC selection works, even if a bit counter-intuitive. Thus, I just want to confirm that they haen't gone down the path some manufacturers have of forcing them to be reset every key cycle.

I absolutely detest each and every one of these intrusive computer control functions that nobody ever asked for on a track day car. Having gotten them on a number of rental cars, I'll also say that I don't want them on the street, either - too much distraction and hazard from not allowing the driver to maintain 100% focus on the road. My current performance car has none of these. I would prefer to purchase a car that doesn't have these functions at all, but I would consider buying a car with them if they can be permanently disabled.

This is one sharp-looking car, and if they've left the controls in the hands of the driver, it's got the potential to be a real winner.

I can answer some of this for you as it's been stated on the spec sheet.
https://www.nissanzclub.com/forum/attachments/2023-nissan-z-specs-pdf.2017/

1. Lane departure warning is standard.
2. Intelligent Cruise Control is standard.
3. Brake assist is standard.
4. Blind spot monitor is standard.

There's a fairly long list of other safety and security features as well.

-Lane departure is probably able to be turned off as I know it is for most cars today.
-Intelligent cruise control is probably similar to other new Nissans.
-Brake assist is probably not able to be turned off.
-Blind spot monitor is probably not able to be turned off and if I were you I wouldn't turn it off. The new Z will have just as bad as a blind spot as the 370Z and speaking from the 370Z owner perspective it is much appreciated this feature is added.

That's helpful, thanks.

Not looking for someone else's opinion of the "features", just want to know if they can be disabled.

That said, I get the point about blind spots. For me, though, the distraction of having those d@mn mirror lights flashing constantly outweighs the potential benefit. I'm looking for a track-ready car, and that sort of distraction doesn't belong on one, much less any sort of auto-braking.

No worries but just a pre-cautionary warning it was just recently stated from Nissan officials that the new Z is not a track-ready car nor is it designed for the track from factory. It's more of a GT sports car, hence them repeatedly claiming it "has good storage for 2 sets of golf clubs."

However, it may be possible with dealership computer software to disable this stuff. The traction control system will likely be able to be turned off with a button/setting in the car. I think there may be different driving modes as well like comfort/sport.

Thanks - I hadn't seen that. It explains a lot about the options packages. It seems odd to me to not expect a 400 horse 2-seater to see some track days, but...OK.

That makes sense. Trouble with the modes is that on most of the Japanese cars I've seen you cannot select the setup for the default, you have to change it every time you start the car (annoying).

My current car (Challenger) allows to you select what is on or off in each mode, so that you can have it aggressive as the default, but still be able to hit a button to turn traction control on in bad weather.
