Ordering a 2026 ?

Is it realistic to visit my local Nissan dealership and order a new 2026 Nissan Z, or do they have minimal allocations, also should I expect dealer mark-ups over MSRP or maybe even discounts?

It is very realistic to walk into a Nissan dealership an drive away a decently discounted one the same day. There are few enough options/packages where there should really be no need to order one since most of the optional items are port or dealer installed anyway, not factory. Other than accessory type items than can be added after the fact, your main choices are color, trim (Sport/Performance/Heritage/Nismo), & transmission (6MT or 9AT).

Nismo Nick at Pinnacle Nissan in Scottsdale, AZ never goes over MSRP. I got my 24 Nismo from him in Feb 25 for 59,3, too. Holler at him.

I'm on the fence between a new C8 Corvette or new Nissan Z.
I realize the Corvette Checks more boxes than the Z BUT, being conservative I find the Corvette kind of flamboyant (over-designed) whereas the Z has a real nice clean look.
I think I'm leaning towards to Z, but I much prefer to order one exactly the way I want and didn't know if this is possible.

Ordering one puts you at their mercy. They know you want it.

I would avoid unless you have money. There will be zero room to negotiate.

Previous to the Z, I came from a C7 & C8. Tough comparison, but the Z is definitely more fun as a driver's car. The Corvettes are much larger, roomier/more comfortable, better MPG, and handle better. The Z just has the fun factor from the manual + turbos that a lazy V8 w/auto can't replicate; more of an old school simplicity & enjoyment! Straight line from a roll, the Z is quicker until you get up into the triple digits (125+ where the long Corvette gearing shines). The Corvettes, especially the C8, will launch from a dig much better with true launch control programming and wider/stickier rubber.

My wife liked the C7, but hated the C8 as a passenger. She really enjoys driving in and riding in the Z.

Cost & simplicity comes into play too, with the Z being much more basic and cheaper to purchase/insure/maintain. C8 DCT maintenance is critical & expensive; that transmission is the Achilles Heel of the car.

Custom ordering a Corvette makes sense since there are a billion options/packages (I custom ordered both mine @ full MSRP), but there just really is no need with the Z. You can likely find the exact combo you want sitting on multiple dealership lots and let them compete for your business.

Never ordered, but I'd worry that between order and receipt, regardless of what was negotiated, a shifty dealer would flip the script on you. Maybe the interest in general increases after your orde. And gotta be a jackass salesman out there who would speak to someone else about it in the mean time and try to get them to pay more than the initial negotiation.

That's just me being pessimistic (or realistic?) based on my experience buying cars.

I'd say the best scenario is to get final numbers in writing and put down a deposit. Maybe a shady dealer would be more likely to not screw you with that stuff in place.

From a former Corvette owner - get a Z.
Much less maintenance. Cheaper to own and operate. And my insurance is half what I was paying for the Vette.

Find a leftover or a pre-owned. Best advice I can give. I wish I got pre-owned but got a performance leftover for $8K off MSRP.

These cars are priced ridiculous brand new.

Speaking of ordering...when did they add the NISMO wheels, intake, heat exchanger and other stuff as dealer-installed options to their configurator? Saw it on nissanusa.com last night and don't remember seeing that before.

The Corvette is wonderful, but if overall cost-to-own is a consideration, don’t forget such things as insurance. I just have the Z Sport model but my insurance isn’t all that bad for a 400HP twin turbo, and I live in a high cost insurance area. I’m pretty sure I’d be paying quite a bit more for any new Vette.

Not sure what year you're living in but insurance right now is the highest it's been in history. What do you pay?

Interesting. I didn't notice this as an option when I was looking for my Z last year.
