Well, something miraculous will need to happen, as the old Nissan FM platform was never designed with hybridization in mind. They did do it on the Q50, so Nissan knows how to do it, but the back half of the Q50 has more room than the Q60 and Z have. The FM coupes delegated chassis space to a large rear muffler assembly, and the FM sedan had much smaller exhaust requirements, allowing the sedan to have much more extra space in the back. They had room to add a small battery pack and electronics. I don't see any room for that on the Z unless you're okay with losing what little space the Z has.

I kinda think that when Nissan removed the numerical prefix from the Z name, that was the hint that this is the last Z.

speaking of that there is a separate rumor out of japan that the V37 skyline will also meet the chopping block this year

I have nothing to base it on but I could see this same Z body staying around with a hybrid engine and quiet exhaust.

We all may (probably) own the last gen of Z / JDM Sports car that is gas powered.
If I recall correctly, the reason for the monstrous gas cap hatch was to accommodate a charger plug.

F--k this car going hybrid!

the reason for the large gas tank is the new design of quarter panels didnt quite fit the Z34 chassis position of where the current gas cap was. so the larger one sit on that body line curve better and compensates for the gas tank hole location not lining up exactly

FWIW, I asked salesman today, while checking out a couple of Z's, and he claims Nissan has rejected an offer by Honda, and is no longer actively seeking capital for rescue. Says they'll continue to restructure, and navigate things internally as it makes sense.

He had no further info on timing for 2025 Z, says everyone just kindof waiting for guidance and inventory?

my take on it is this is textbook corporate strategy. makes sense that now the last few years are bound to the outgoing guy and this long time 2 decade nissan lifer comes in to rejuvenate the brand. Thats about the only hand they had to play.... problem is from an sports car enthusiasts perspective nothing pertaining to the Z GTR or even sub Z is a needle mover for the pure financial situation they are in related to whats going on in the industry. those cars get you excited about the brand for sure but have no real bottom line impact. Nissan is going to live or die based on its people movers the innovation/streamline/or whatever they have planned is there. niche sports cars moving into the 2030s gets people like you and me talking on forums and hyped but big picture its not a drop in the bucket. the Z as we know it has reached its final form and who is a GTR resurrected as 200K+ solid state BEV unicorn showpiece really for?

Used to be, "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday." That philosophy seems to have died away.

I pitched a campaign to NISMO last year called that. They asked me about being part of this influencer program and my idea was the do something with the GT4 car and show them side by side with some NISMO aftermarket parts being added to the z NISMO on a lift next to the gt4 car. And then show footage of the GT4 racing then the Z NISMO with parts on the same track.

They liked the idea but never followed up. I think they did the GTR engine drag Z instead :(

I do like this approach, the best compromise in today's times moving forward. A complete turnaround for BEVs would not be the smart move.

e-Power Means Nissan Gets More Out Of Existing Combustion Engines
The "path of electrification" is an interesting choice of words, because Nissan will offer three different hybrid powertrains going forward. Your options will be a traditional hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, or e-Power. The latter will be new to the USA next year, and the engine under the hood is connected to a generator. It powers a small battery, which powers the wheels. It may seem like a complex solution, but it’s actually very smart.
