Hi everyone, I need help here.

the other day I saw a picture of someone who put the nismo open ended lugnuts on their OEM wheels. It was a blue Z and I have just spent an hour trying to find the post as I wanted to reach out to the owner and let them know that the lugnuts do not match the wheel as the taper is wrong and they are not secure.

Anyone know who it is?

I figured it might cause some damage to the wheel, however, earlier today I had a chat with my friend the tyre fitter, who has examined those exact lug nuts (I have a set) when he replaced my tyres, and confirmed to me that they are not compatible. I wasn't planning to use them with the OEM wheels so I didn't think much about it.

After mentioning to him someone has them on their OEM wheels he explained that damage to the wheel is the least of their concerns, as the taper of the nismo lug nuts and them not seating correctly means less thread engagement and basically the wheels aren't secure and might fall off as a result.

So that's why i just spent an hour trying to find the post! I want to share this information with the owner and hopefully nothing bad happens.

Bringing this thread back. So I am looking to upgrade my lug nuts on my OEM wheels. I am hyper dipping my wheels and would like black lug nuts. I was thinking of the Nismo ones until I seen this. Z1 offers what looks like OEM lug nuts in black but they do not offer the locking lugs in black. What is y’all’s thoughts? Thank you for this post.

With the black lug nuts you have to be careful when tightening and loosening them. Don't use a impact gun as the impact action usually leaves witness marks in the black coating from the socket hammering on the nut. If you take your car to a shop to get work done you have to remind them not to use an impact gun.

Wish I had known this. Never thought you look it up.

I have these exact Nismo lug nuts. I have them on my LMRS1s. So far so good, but upon closer examination I noticed a scratch on my back passenger side wheel.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah I don’t use an impact as it is on the wheels but I never thought to tell the mechanic that. So far I haven’t had to bring it in.

If you want to run the Nismo lug nuts, or your favorite brand of tapered lug nuts on the OEM Rays wheels, Gktech makes a specific 60° adapter for this swap.

https://us.gktech.com/products/z34-...fLpZmsn4sSIqTV4MV1ri9TkdHwyBPdr7cyvHwrFHRjxTa

These can only be used in conjunction with extended studs or spacers with the prefitted longer studs. The OEM length studs will not have enough thread engagement after the adapter is in place.

Can anyone confirm that the Nismo lug nuts will fit on the stock Nismo wheels from a Nismo Z without any issues?

No. The NISMO wheel has the same seating requirements. They will however work great with the the NISMO aftermarket lmgt lmrs1 or The 57cr

Although the GKtech adapters are great for those wanting to run tuner/tapered/conical lug nuts on OEM wheels (includes Perf and NISMO RAYS) YOU MUST USE EXTENDED STUDS.
The mag/shank OEM lug nuts are threaded all the way down to the base of the shank. When using adapters like GKtech you lose all of the thread engagement of the shank and the thickness of the conical seat. Guessing 10+mm. This is a significant loss of thread engagement when used on OEM wheel studs.
GK tech also says not to run them with bolt on spacers unless the spacers have extended studs.
