Need help oil catch can

Trying to install z1 catch can and I cannot get the intercooler off for the life of me. Took off all 4 mounting bolts, both cable disconnected and clamps loosened on throttle body and inlet pipe. Tried to wiggle the intercooler off but it is stuck in there. Removed strut brace and oil cap off for more room but still no help

It is like arm wrestling hulk hogan. I stole that off another member here. But it’s true.

Just keep trying it will come off those hoses, 1mm at a time.

It’s very difficult to budge, but will.

it’s only a tiny bit easier to get back on, FYI.

It took 40 min to lift maybe couple mm from the inlet pipe. Tried to take it off from throttle body side but it won’t come off unless inlet pipe comes off first. My back is killing me, I’m going to try again tmm. But those that has the catch can on wrestling it is rlly the only way?

A twisting motion helped me "break the seal" of the hose, then it was a little easier to pull it out a mm at a time. It might help to hit a Q-Tip with some WD-40 and then rub a small amount around the edge where the hose meets the pipe, try to work it in. Then continue the twisting back and forth motion, should help it come out. Just clean up any residue before reassembly.

Take a breath and imagine dipping your foot in honey, wiping most of it off, then trying to put on a sock that's 5 sizes too small...but in reverse.

I assume the hoses are really stuck to the connections (flanges?...idk). Dig as far as you can around them to try and release them. If you haven't done that already.
They'll stick to one side. Once you get the intercooler off completely remove those inlet and outlet hoses, or at least break them free if they're still stuck to the other side. That will make it easier to reinstall.

I was able to Install the oil catch can without removing the intercooler. Feed the hoses and use a long nose Pliers to pull/guide them thru.
It really wasn't difficult at all using this process but it was using the Mishimoto catch can where the hoses are angled.

I pretty much did what the guy in this video did. I would say that the toughest part was breaking the seal on the rubber connection between the intercooler and throttle body. I just spent a few minutes wiggling it back and forth. Once I broke the seal, I gave the IC a couple of good tugs and got it out. I didn't disconnect any of the hoses on the passenger side. Once loose, I folded the IC to the left on top of the engine just like in the video. Good luck!

I did the “flip” method as well.

I also lost one of the plastic A/C caps into that hole circled in red. I could never find it to fish it out. This last summer. No issues.

I pretty much did what the guy in this video did. I would say that the toughest part was breaking the seal on the rubber connection between the intercooler and throttle body. I just spent a few minutes wiggling it back and forth. Once I broke the seal, I gave the IC a couple of good tugs and got it out. I didn't disconnect any of the hoses on the passenger side. Once loose, I folded the IC to the left on top of the engine just like in the video. Good luck!

@KelvinllMelvin, one lesson learned I will share is to connect the new hoses to the catch can as instructed, position the catch can, and then connect the hoses to their respective connection points. The instructions do this step in reverse: both hose ends meet at the catch can, then you connect them. It is easy to get self-confused when connecting the hoses to the catch can, and I kept second-guessing myself. I think the reverse method is easier since the new hoses are different lengths and shapes and will naturally line up with their respective connections.

I did check with a shop that works on turbo cars and they assured me it would not hurt it at all.

I was clenching up when I hit the start button, but there was not a click, clack or pop.

I'm not sure on the mechanics of that area, I don't know if it's still in there or got sucked in and disintegrated.

That hole leads directly to the turbo compressor outlet. I guess all’s well that ends well, but I don’t think I would have been brave enough to hit that start button!

no idea. My forearm worked the cap loose unbeknownst to me while I was removing the intercooler and I watched it flop/fall/fling into the hole in slow motion.
