This is probably my ignorance but "what is that dongle"? It was in my OBD port (which is white) and then plugged into a 6 or 7 pin connector. Is it supposed to be there?

Red is probably power, pin 16 on the OBDII connector. Was the small end plugged in to anything?
Yep. There are 5 pins connecting to another in the car. Think, like he mentioned, it is probably a lowjack.

Did a little poking around research and I didn't see a Lojack harness that looked like that, or even close, but that doesn't mean it's not. There are many others that make GPS locators as well. Apparently it's not uncommon for dealerships to install them in vehicles, especially if you finance with/through them.

The odd thing to me is the 4 (or 5?) wires. For power you only need two wires, power (pin 16) and ground (pin 4 or 5). Other pins are data. We have a device that can pull whatever parameters you want from the OBD with only 4 wires: power(16), signal ground(5), CAN high(3) and CAN low(11).

That harness could be for anything from accessory interior lighting, to dashcam, to a GPS tracker/immobilizer. It's probably harmless, but guaranteed harmless if unplugged/removed.

Looks to me like a performance box connector. Small end goes through firewall to the box. Torque etc. boost.

Did anything change after you removed it? As far as performance on Nissan Connect, etc.?

Not so far, everything seems fine. The drive recorder is fine.

Followed the wire and pulled off another do-dad. It looks like a lo-jack?? A white ~12 pin connector connects the device to the car and then that 5 pin to that OBD2 port. Weird.

Finance company doesn't think you are going to pay your bills.

Kidding..sort of. You'd have to sign some disclosure at purchase if that were the case I think. That's likely in place because the dealer forgot to remove it, helps with tracking stolen inventory.
