Pedestrian hood pops up to keep whatever you hit from smashing in the windshield. I assume getting catapulted over the car is safer than hitting the windshield. Science.
I have heard that it's more for the hood to have more space to the top of the engine. This way if the pedestrian's head hits the hood, it has room to crush the hood with air behind it, instead of the persons head hitting the hard engine block.

For the install of the hood dampers does the car need to be propped up to get hand below fender?

Hmm…
Gotta admit, that does seem more plausible than my Wile E Coyote/Road Runner theory.

What is the difference between Pedestrian (what I have) and standard hood? I am assuming that pops the hood for pedestrians in certain types of accidents.

The pedestrian pop ups are within the chassis. From your picture you have the pedestrian hinges.

It looks like you have a Performance trim as well. What determines if someone gets the Pedestrian ones or not?

Not sure about non-US models, but all Z’s sold in the US have the pedestrian (pop up) hood systems.

@FSUZ33 his response is correct from all I have read, if you are in the US, you have these. This is because we have stupid people that will sue if you run them over (not intentionally of course).
When I was stationed in Germany, if the pedestrian crossed outside the crosswalk or against the light, it was the pedestrians fault. .... we need smarter laws or people, so that our cars aren't modified to fit stupid people.

I keep coming back to this video showing the pedestrian hood popper in action.

Seems they do offer now, pricey for what they are, but at least available.
Price dropped to $74 US, so I bought a pair. I'll post after install.

Install was ~30 minutes, finding the rachets/sockets probably another 30 minutes, but the Kanjo for the RZ34 fit perfectly. The videos on their website were close, but you do have to jack the car up a bit, the wheels don't have to leave the ground to get the clearance, so no need for jack stands (car never got high enough). I left the stickers on intentionally for the forum.

I removed the heavy duty hatch poppers. It was causing some rattles with the rear windshield not being properly seated. Probably due to the extra pressure from the poppers themselves. I would rather have no noise than a trunk that opens well.

If anyone wants to buy mine, let me know: https://www.nissanzclub.com/forum/threads/for-sale-z1-2023-nissan-z-heavy-duty-hatch-poppers.6347
Same experience: https://www.nissanzclub.com/forum/threads/hatch-half-unlocks.2202/post-120793

It's a little unnerving, isn't it? These seem to carry forward from the Z34 and the Z33. Maybe the RZ34 changed here more than Z1 expected.

Anybody have these on a Z34 with the same hatch fitment issue?

Hi,

At the very least I want to swap out the tires with Michelin Pilot Sports, better exhaust, and a tune. Maybe install sway bars to tighten the suspensions a bit. I do not think I need coilovers.

If my goal is to get OEM+, what would you recommend?
(Caveat: yes, I know you have 19" rims compared to my 18" ones).

I'll offer a suggestion. Perhaps go with all-season performance tires? If you are in Detroit, but need to move the car between November and March, you won't want to be messing up the compound on the Michelins...

@Who.Am.Eye.2716 recommended the Continental DWS06s.

I went with 245/45r18 up front, and 275/40r18 in the rear
