And... That's fair enough ............. BUT! Nissan markets the STD Z (Performance) as a "High-performance SPORTS car" .... thus, you would assume it would be reasonably capable around a track such as the ring.

Maybe all car manufacturers should change the name of their vehicles to accurately describe what they can actually achieve. The Z is a performance sports car now is it in the same category as Porsche or Ferrari no, but no one would think that. For the price point you get a lot for your money. Also anyone who claims an open diff sport is a better buy than a Performance has buyer remorse. When I purchased my Z a manual was a must have and the NISMO was automatic only.

I’ve owned several performance cars and tracked a few of them. I had a C6 Z06, which was an amazing car, but after 20–30 minutes on track, the oil temperatures were getting into unsafe territory. I also tracked an Audi RS4 and had cooling issues, and I had a 2013 GT500 that I took to the track. The brakes were a disaster, and the car was simply too damn heavy.

My point is, unless you’re buying a dedicated track car from Nissan, there are going to be tradeoffs.

Of all the performance cars I’ve owned, my 2024 Nissan Z Performance is probably my favorite. I knew going in that the stock tires were a weakness, but honestly, I don’t really plan to track this car. If I did, I’d put a second set of wheels on it with more track-oriented tires, along with better brake fluid and pads. That alone would make the car much more capable.

I was actually surprised by how well a completely stock Z, on the factory tires and with no modifications, was pushed around the Nürburgring and still finished the lap. Was it perfect? No. But the engine and drivetrain are fantastic, and for the street, this car is an absolute blast.

The only modification I’ve made so far is a set of springs, and they made a huge difference in how the car feels. Once I wear out the stock tires, I’ll probably go with PS4s and Stillen sway bars. At that point, I think the car will feel completely different.

Some people prefer a blank canvas. I would definitely feel buyers remorse if I had paid $10k extra for brakes that fail after 4 minutes.

Whatever it takes so you can feel good about what you bought and able to sleep at night! Maybe I missed the memo that high performance sports car have open differentials. As far as the brakes under performing at the Ring the vast majority of stock tires, and braking systems don’t perform well there that’s a fact. The folks who track their car there all have mods. I lived (stationed) in Germany overall for about ten years and have visited the Ring a few times. Some of the people I knew have driven it and most didn’t push it hard, because they knew the limitations of a completely stock car.

Exactly! Unfortunately a lot of these commenters have high end taste, but economy car money. They somehow expected a stock Z to crush the Ring these same folks would be complaining to no end if the price of the car was $10K more due to performance upgrades. When I was in the BMW community (owned 4) it always made me chuckle because a lot of them would buy bare none base vehicles just so they could be badge snobs instead of buying a cheaper brand with more content or bang for their money. That’s how I feel about some of the commenters here. In the end buy what you want that’s makes you happy. In the end the reason I went with the performance had a manual option which NISMO didn’t offer at that time.

Ok, I don’t really care how fast a Z is around the Ring, but I’ll bite. Can you name a few of these many cars that are cheaper than a Z and also outclass it on the track? Hell, I can’t even really think of any cheaper sports cars currently on the market period, other than the twins or a Miata?

I think it's pretty stupid to run the non-Nismo model on the Nurburgring and complain about its driving dynamics on a race track. My guess? He will do another one soon with the Nismo MT and talk about how great it is....

We are aware that the Z Nismo is way better than a Performance it's more how poor the Performance is in stock form. So many have said the Performance should be what the current Nismo is and the Nismo should be crushing or right there with the GR Supra and M2 G87 and it's not.

GR Yaris, GR Corolla and Civic Type-R for example would crush a Z Performance on the ring in stock form, that's the point...

I usually steer clear of these online arguments, because 99% of people commenting have already made their mind up with 0 interest in discussion, but here was my 2 cents.
Side note, I just got home from a ~2,000km trip on shitty Australian roads, and I'm extremely happy that it isn't a more track focused car.
