I was just thinking something similar. An RX-9 would make for a difficult choice between that and a Z. If a real RX-9 does materialize, and if looks anywhere near as good as the RX-Vision concept, then the Z is going to have some very serious competition - especially if the RX is outfitted with a turbo inline 6.

Wow, very cool!! Also, I know the article states the above image resembles the RX Vision concept, and I agree, the above looks really small - like Miata small.

This is indeed very interesting, and I think lends credence to the rumor that their next sports coupe would employ hybrid tech for an AWD system.

To add to the above, the rear opening is a hatch-back style. That lends more credence to an RX revival.

Another thing to point out is that these patents are from January 2020, not this week as most publications make it appear. The world is a vastly different place now, and manufacturers' priorities have somewhat shifted. The point being is that while this is certainly just a patent with no guarantee of ever being produced, the fact that these patents also predate the pandemic is also a little concerning. It's still speculation of course. Who knows? Maybe this time next year or two years from now, we'll be seeing spy shots of an RX Proto. Exciting times indeed!

looks like mazda is wanting to get in on the retro party too...

im really curious now how things will turn out. the plan was the get the z for a daily, but i couldnt wait.
now that i picked up a new dd, im so happy with it, i feel i can let one of my two fd's go now.
i didnt plan it, but my wife has really gotten into the new z when the blue one was revealed.
but if this new rx turns out to be what us rotary boys have dreamed about, i may have to wait again...
