Maybe its just me, but I wanted to see if anyone had any decent counterarguments to this. As the new owner of a 24 Performance, I would really like to hear something to the contrary.

Looking at videos I've seen put out online, it seems like the most you can expect to get without going ethanol blend is in the 500 whp range? That seems rather anemic for a car that puts out 380~ wheel; This is not much headroom.

Am I missing something?

One would think that with upgraded direct injectors, fuel pumps (high and low pressure), intake, full 3" downpipes and exhaust, this car should be way more capable than the 500 range on 93.

What am I missing here? One of the videos had a car equipped with the Z1 ball bearing turbos and they mentioned 500 range on pump gas. WIth upgraded turbos? That sounds really lacking, I just find it really hard to believe that if you throw upgraded injectors, pumps, intake, full 3" exhaust, etc at this car on 93, you won't make anything above 500...that just seems really hard to believe.

so...is there something I'm missing here?

The Vr30 has been around for a long time. What you can and cannot do is well known. Why would you buy one knowing what engine it came with and expecting something different?

Plenty of people have pushed beyond 500hp. You just have to be committed.

That's my point, it's been around for quite awhile, I find it really hard to believe with a catalog of modifications up to/including replacement direct injectors and turbochargers, that I'm limited to 500whp range on 93 octane.

Define 'committed.' I've bought, owned, and modified many different cars over the years so I feel relatively comfortable saying I'm up to the task at hand. The idea that this car has little headroom with that many supporting mods on pump gas just seems...inaccurate.

I'm trying to avoid making direct references to other platforms here as that is going to detract from my main point of the post.

respectfully, why did you buy the car without researching the options and paths to XXX power?

Beautiful car on an older chassis with an older engine. ??
I bought it because I wanted it; no real other reason. The VR30 doesn't seem like its unable to make power by any means, but my question is the feasibility of it with 93 octane and supporting mods.

That lists flex fuel in the mod list, I'm looking at the viability of pump gas only.

You have had your answer. What is the point? Buyers remorse? sell it and move on

My understanding is because the turbos are so small they limit the HP you can make in the upper RPM range. The torque #'s however can be very high with just a tune but then you run into traction issues. If you want to push for high WHP you're going to need to upgrade the turbos

It's definitely a platform that needs that extra effort to get to crazy numbers.

But calling 500whp anemic is wild to me.

Shit joining the 500 HP club was like such a goal for Evos. My Evo X had a fully built motor, sleeved and overbored to 2.3l with an aftermarket turbo to join that club and that thing was a beast.

Now it's a few bolt-ons for 500whp and that's "anemic". Crazy times haha.

Import tuners have known this for decades: inline engines have usually been a significantly better platform for tuning.

Shoulda bought a beemer.....

One thing to point out here is that the VR30 is a torque monster, not a peak hp output motor. The snails are little babies in the grand scheme. There is a lot to love here, but having a peak HP beast compared to some other platforms out there is not its strong suit especially if you only want to run pump gas.. Power output is a money game. The more money you have the more power you can make. Personally, I can't wait for 420-430 wheel on pump gas.

Did I strike a nerve?

I don't understand the hostility; You admittedly took a fraction of time to link an article you didn't bother to read the contents of and jump straight to assumptions of buyers remorse and telling me to sell my car, and saying I 'have had my answer.'

This post was created to encourage dialogue on how to make power with pump gas above a certain amount like I had mentioned previously.

I wouldn't consider this an out of the ordinary question when there seems to be some obvious gaps in what parts are used and what the gains are with said parts.

500 HP with upgraded turbos does seem rather anemic when the stock hp is nearly 400 to begin with. I'm not criticizing the platform so much as questioning the possibility of missing information.

To clarify I'm not looking for any specific hp number, but AMS quotes their upgraded direct injectors at around 800hp on gas so I would think this level or something even 200 hp less would be obtainable..do you see the basis for my discussion?

Logically I would think that with full bolt ons (3" downpipes, exhaust, intakes, upgraded direct injectors, lp/hpfp) and a tune, a platform like this would be capable of making more power than 500 on 93, especially with upgraded turbos.

It's obviously not a fueling issue, as you need way more volume on ethanol, so my question is, what's the missing piece?

Lets have the conversation then.... What's the HP goal to the wheels you have in mind? (on pump gas)

What "they" say is FBO stage 2 2024 M3 is 543 whp 547 wtq. on 93. Target of 22.4psi boost. Out of a car that is one and a half the cost of a Z performance...... (for comparison)
