It's normal, that's how these cars are (as well as most others). They shift early to get good gas mileage.
If you put it in Sport Mode, and drive more aggressively, it will shift much better and hold the RPM's higher. It will be way more fun to drive. However, if you do that, you have to expect to burn much more fuel.
If you want full control, put it in manual mode and shift when you want.

you were in 7th gear at 37mph, I guess that's what it's like with 9 gears.

the owner's manual for 6 speed manual cars recommends shifting into 6th gear at 37mph too.

Yeah I tried it earlier on manual and it’s a lot better. Thanks man.

It's because of .gov fuel standard requirements. The same type of regulations that put auto start/stop nonsense in cars. It allows the automaker to say the car gets over fuel efficiency requirements. Us users can override these things though...

Yes, stupidly annoying. Especially when I want it to get up to 4k rpm but overtime you get used to it and can kinda control it with the throttle. The car is just eager to upshift in standard mode.
Very annoying. I just can’t believe I’m just now noticing this 4,500 miles later. Thanks man

You'll love the mpg on a roadtrip
Totally agree. When I swing across to Miami for a long weekend, the Z returns shockingly good fuel economy.

I've taken to leaving it in standard mode and using the standard meter view during the work week and switching it to sport mode and sport meter for "Weekend Mode" ?

9 gears are WAYYY to many, Thanks gov'ment. My 370 was a 6-speed, and frankly, that was Perfect.

I think if you put it in sport mode & hump on the exhilarator, maybe?? it will change the shift points a bit?
