Does anybody have numbers on how many were actually built in 23, 24 and 25? Google is telling me 2000 to 3000 per year. Which is literally nothing compared to common cars.

I’ve owned 6 Zs in my life since the early 80s (a 240Z). Plus more recently the BMW Z4 convertible and then the 370Z Nismo. Am I biased? Hell yeah. Around me (CA) people are conditioned to like SUVs, Trucks & Teslas. That covers most of what I see on the road.

Here’s what is wrong & why the Z will remain rare: #1 is price. Way overpriced for a car built on a 10yr old chassis. #2 Nissan may be in financial trouble so what about parts & maintenance if they go under? #3 As noted, Most people prefer SUVs, or (in CA) ugly Trucks or Teslas.
#4 The journalists. In my opinion, because of initial price, the Z was compared with other sportscars unfairly. They drove them for initial reviews with (for example) a 9at or with the shipping spacers still on the springs. Mine even was delivered to me with front spacers. Some of them couldn’t appreciate the heritage and what Nissan was trying to achieve. The car got bad press early on during launch & it stuck.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

tl;dr Price, perception and bad press.

True, but it’s hard to know with Nissan. They won’t release production figures. They’ve kept 350/370Z numbers very difficult to obtain. It’s mostly a guessing game.
Fewer get made into Nismos, and it’s been easier to estimate those numbers. We know there were only 240 protos made, with insane markup when they became available. Sales can give an indication of production numbers but aren’t definitive. Say they’ve sold 7,000 since launch…
U.S. sales by year:
  • 2022: 263 units
  • 2023: 1,771 units
  • 2024: 3,164 units
  • Q1-Q2 2025: 1,635 units, probably will be 3,200 by year end
  • So -At a guess, 2500 RZ34s produced a year (on average) since 2023 with <20% made into Nismos? That sounds pretty close to me.
The GTR is toast, and if any Z comes out from Nissan going forward - it’s likely to be a hybrid sportscar or a pure EV 🤢 🤮

It’s not a true sports car and overpriced for the young driver. I love mine vs GR86 but it’s way heavier, doesn’t shift as well and even at steep discounts is $5-$10k more. I don’t see any either and that is the way I like it.

Be proud that we owners of the Z!! We are a very special group! Another reason is when released they were tagged with ridiculous markups. So people said no thanks!. Now they are selling discounted . No worries we will see more.

I respectfully disagree about it not being a true sports car. Two seater, twin turbo, short, wide, and low, manual trans option. It is sprung kinda soft but otherwise I don't know what it would need to be any more "sports".

I contend it is right in the sweet spot of sports car land.

OK ,the Z is a two seater with 400HP and the tools to thrill any normal person. You don't have to buy a 911 Turbo to feel the exhilaration. I Love mine!

I hear ya…. I love mine but handling is not great in a true sports car handling fashion. The car is extremely heavy cornering and you feel it just coming off an off ramp never mind aggressive cornering. I prefer the Performace trim GT experience over a harsh ride with loud exhaust. That’s why I didn’t go with a Nismo and traded in my GR86.

I think it feels more like my ND miata than it does my C7 vette as far as steering response goes. Handling feels sharp given the street spec suspension. I know it doesn't arrive in track focused trim/settings, I hear what you are saying as well (it is soft and heavy). For me though, the idea that it isn't a true sports car is fundamentally at odds with the facts as I see them.

240 Protos were made for Japan
240 Protos were made for the US

how many for Australia because I highly doubt 240 were sold in Australia the first year.
