Couldn't find any other details on line, so thought I would post it here. Very simple. I used a Mirror Mount to attach my radar detector to the rearview mirror stalk. Wiring is super simple when plugging into day/night mirror. Black is ground and one of the green wires on my car was switched. The other green wire must be unswitched for Homelink.
I used this for the connection: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082V1245P?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details, and it comes in 3 sizes. I used the smallest.
Super simple

I've always used Blendmount mounts...they're excellent. There are a variety of mirror taps out there, some better than other. I prefer the ones with finer pins...less chance of damage. I haven't wired mh 2024 yet...but on my 370Z, the pinout was

black/red (far right) - switched power
yellow - always on power
black (middle) - ground

I think radar detectors are a must-have item. They won't save you in every circumstance, but if they save you once, they've paid for themself. No guarantee, but they put the odds in your favor. I'm just looking for an edge.

I’ve only used Escort Redline radar detectors. They are the best! They pay for themselves in short order!

I've always used Escort, going back as far as 1980. I've been using my current Passport since my first 370Z in 2011. The newer radar detectors have a lot of features to justify their price, such as crowd-sourcing and "learnability", and database access but my car is already more connected that I'd like, and I don't particularly care to have one more wireless access point in my vehicle. In this state, especially here in out-state Minnesota, police radar on anything other than Ka band is extremely rare. I've disabled all the other bands, enabling only the 4 Ka band frequencies, thus completely eliminating false alerts from grocery stores and speed signs. I'm not aware of any photo radar traps in this state. Bottom line....a nice simple high quality radar detector like Escort Passport is all I need in my simple environment. Other areas might be better off with more doo-dads on their radar detectors.

I'm still very active in the radar detector community and like you, have been running detectors since ~1980. The biggest advantages of the newer detectors is that the range is much better and the false alerts / blind spot monitoring / filtering is night and day better. I wish I lived in a place where only Ka was only used but unfortunately here in NC, some local departments still use k band. I feel naked if I'm driving without my detector and laser jammers, lol.

The installation was very easy. I bought a mirror tap online. Then, I used a voltmeter to identify which green wire had 12V when the car was off. I connected the tap to the other green wire that read 0V because I didn't need power when the car was off. For the ground connection, I connected the black wire from the mirror tap to the black ground wire in the car. The rest of the installation
was a breeze.

What a coincidence, been looking into getting a radar detector and was intending to create a post!

Any tips for those of us in states / provinces where it's illegal?

Was looking into the Uniden R7/8
With the "stealth mount"

Got my first ticket just a few weeks back... luckily just a stop sign infraction.

Thanks for this. I bought the wire

Thanks for the links and video. I bought the wiring you posted on Amazon and installed my Uniden R4 in 5 minutes total, including the mount. Very happy to have it going. I had a harness extension in my GR86 that connected in the headliner and had mirror, radar, and camera connections. Once you have such a thing it’s a real PITA not having it. I don’t need the camera power so this works perfectly.

I was surprised it really does come with 3 wire connectors like the photo shows. I’ll wire my wife’s Murano for a road trip Thursday.

Thanks again. Really grateful for the help.

You guys are all over it. The mirror tap is awesome but can be unreliable. If you have trouble, you can snap open the wire connector drop in the wire tap pins and close the connector which will clamp the wire tap and give a better connection..

escort & V1 was the king of the hill back in the day. But modern day escort is dead along with their products. The new king is uniden R3, R4, R4w R7, R8, R8w & R9w. The V1 Gen2 is still in the game although the founder just passed (also the co-founder of escort).

best info and real world test results for counter measures is vortex radar.com and rdforum.org.

I installed a Uniden R7 using the connector piggyback OP linked, it was a giant pain to install. I ended up buying a knockoff blendmount and snapped the pins in the process of installing, so I'm just powering the detector via the passenger footwell. If only there was a cleaner harness piggyback.
