I had my car into the shop for the three year service: oil, filter, brake fluid, intake air filters, cabin air filter, etc. The car has about 13,400 miles on it.

I also had them look at the cruise control and the clutch pedal creaking noise issues. No repro.

The air filters are a funny story. They only had one in stock. I asked if the same filter is used in other models as a single, and the service advisor said it was unique to the Z (not sure if that's an authoritative statement). Why would there be only one in stock? They come in twos, like shoes. So that took an extra day to order parts.

Anyway, the subject of this thread is something the tech found while working on the car: a fuel leak somewhere near the fuel rails nestled in the V.

I'm trying to remember if I smelled gasoline in the garage before I took it in for the old change. Not sure. Maybe.

Anyway, they didn't have the right parts to fix the leak, so that, too, needed to be ordered.

Went back on Saturday to get it fixed. They replaced Tube Assembly-Fuel - Nissan (17520-6GP0A) Picked it up at 1. went to a Saint Patrick's šŸ€ party at 3, and got home around 6.

The car still strongly smells of gasoline inside and out. Left it in the garage overnight (didn't sleep well) with the hood up and the windows down. The gasoline smell had abated overnight to a faint whiff.

My current thinking is that I'll drive it today, and if it the smell increases, back into the shop. If the smell continues to fade, I'll assume that there was some spillage that wasn't cleaned up properly and that it will eventually evaporate completely.

It's a little nerve wracking to drive a modern car and smell gasoline. I don't even smell it at the pump with California vapor recovery systems.

Yeesh... Report this to NTSB, it could be a wider failure item in need of a safety recall, which would mandate Nissan redesign the part.

Any type of fuel smell or leak is a killer, gotta address right away, don't even drive it. Keeping an eye on this thread, keep up the updates. Fire waiting to happen can be tragic very quickly!!

Sorry for the problem but thanks for being a Z ā€œpathfinderā€ and reporting the issue. Knowledge is power, no matter how aggravating.

Sorry you are having this issue. I am still actively going through the same situation myself and I’m already on my third replacement. I’ve also seen a few others in different community groups report the exact same issue on these cars.

Are you factory stock, how many miles driven? Driving type? More details will be very valuable.

In my case, the car is stock, has around 13,500 miles in three years, and it's my daily. All my driving is street and highway.

Update on my case.
  • Fri, Mar 13, car is in for 3-year service. Tech notices fuel leak. Shop orders parts for overnight delivery.
  • Sat, Mar 14, shop replaces "fuel tube assembly". I get home for the evening, car smells like gasoline.
  • Sun, Mar 15 through Wed, Mar 18, every time I drive the car it smells like gasoline. The AC sucks the smell into the cabin.
  • Wed, Mar 18, I take the car back to the shop. They smell gasoline too. They inspect the repair work and clean the area. They didn't find any leaks. Drive back to work seems fine. Keeping an eye on it.

Damn… I’m sure you’re keeping an eye it. I don’t want to read an update ā€œToday, Z became a smoking fireball. The shop said ā€œbring it back, we’ll take another lookā€¦ā€ ;)
