Just started happening after first service last week. Title says it all. If you open & close tge door it goes down, won’t go back up. Each time you open the door, it gets lower.
I know the Solution to reset: Press window down & hold button down for 10secs. Press window up & hold window up for 10secs. Then it starts working correctly again.

But should I have to do this every time the car has sat for a while unused. No, I shouldn’t

Anyone else seen this? Mine is a 2025 Nismo.

Yes. It did happen afterwards. Passenger door doesn’t ever go wrong. So maybe a sensor bug on just the driver’s door. The service mgr said they didn’t change any settings. BTW- they even refused to turn off the ASE because the tech “didn’t want to change settings”.

Dang. Sorry to hear that. I wouldn't know where to start outside of talking to the dealer about it. Hopefully someone here has some tips. Speaking of tips, thanks for the one about pressing and holding the windows buttons. I didn't know that was a thing.

maybe they closed & opened the door “pet detective“ style and damaged something in the door.

Sounds like an incompetent service center. I’d recommend going to a different Nissan and request it looked at. It’s covered under your normal warranty even to just be looked at.

Just had this happen to my Z after I disconnected the battery to do some work. I thought I was going crazy at first, glad the reset trick worked!

CHAT GPT says...
This is actually a fairly well-known symptom on modern Nissans with frameless windows (Z, GT-R, some Infinitis). The reset procedure fixes the symptom, but it is not the root cause. On a brand-new 2025 NISMO, it should not require repeated resets.

What's happening?
The window control module is losing or forgetting its "upper limit" calibration. Each time the door is opened:

  1. The glass drops about 10 mm (normal operation).
  2. When the door closes, it should return to its exact previous position.
  3. Instead, it returns slightly lower.
  4. After several cycles, the window is left significantly open.
The initialization procedure re-teaches the module where "fully closed" is.

Most likely causes (in order)
1. Weak or unstable 12-volt battery (most common)

  • Even on a new car, a weak battery can cause the window module to lose its learned position after sitting.
  • This is surprisingly common if the car isn't driven often or has sat on a dealer lot.
  • Have the battery load-tested, not just voltage-tested.
2. Window initialization software issue

  • Nissan has issued service information for similar conditions on other models.
  • The dealer should check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) or BCM/window control software updates for the 2025 Z.
3. Window regulator or motor position sensor

  • The motor contains an encoder that tracks window position.
  • If it's intermittently losing counts, the calibration drifts.
  • If initialization only lasts a few days before failing again, this becomes a strong possibility.
4. Door wiring harness issue

  • Less common, but an intermittent connection in the door harness can momentarily interrupt communication or power to the window module.
5. Body Control Module (BCM) software

  • Since the BCM controls the auto-drop/raise feature, corrupted software or a module fault can also produce this behavior.
What your friend should do
Because the car is under warranty:

  • Don't keep reinitializing it and ignore the problem.
  • Document the issue with a video showing the window dropping farther after each door cycle.
  • Ask the dealer to:
    • Test the 12 V battery under load.
    • Scan for BCM and power window DTCs.
    • Check for BCM/window software updates.
    • Verify window regulator encoder counts.
    • Replace the regulator/motor assembly if the problem persists.
My assessment
This does not sound like normal behavior or user error. It's likely an intermittent loss of calibration caused by a weak battery, a software issue, or a faulty regulator/motor encoder. On a 2025 NISMO, I'd expect the dealer to resolve it under warranty rather than simply instruct the owner to perform the reset procedure repeatedly.

I'd estimate the likelihoods as:

  • 45% – Weak or marginal 12 V battery / voltage issue
  • 30% – BCM or window software update needed
  • 20% – Faulty window regulator/motor encoder
  • 5% – Wiring or connector issue
If the reset works temporarily but the problem returns after the car sits unused, I'd start by having the battery and charging system checked before replacing parts.

2003 Z33 flashbacks.

Go to the X to skip the backstory.

‘03 Z33, around 2006: Driver’s side window rarely did it, but passenger side was constant. Would go down and not come up. Wouldn’t go all the way up. Whatever it did or didn’t want to do, it made up its own mind. Took it to the dealer (yes, the same dealer I’m dealing with now) at a little over 30k to have it serviced and to check the window issue. Put a piece of masking tape over the passenger side window buttons and left a note stating IF it rolls down it may not roll back up.
went to pick it up that afternoon, just as they were closing. On the window, unsurprisingly they “couldn’t replicate the problem.” I pull out of the bay (he’s pulling the door down behind me) and notice the passenger window is down and wouldn’t roll up. I slam on brakes and yell before the door comes down. He walks under the door and I show him and explain how they DID replicate the problem. Mechanic was driving past and he flagged him down. Mechanic opened my passenger door, knelt down and beat the crap pot of the door card while holding the window button. Subsequent visit, they said I needed a new BCM (warranty)

I didn’t believe them. They could have been right, but if you have a leaky valve cover gasket and they say ‘full engine replacement’ technically that WOULD solve the problem.

To me, it didn’t seem electrical. It seemed like it was getting stuck. So I started dismantling.

X
It was electrical, but the fix only cost me time. No parts.

Not sure how many thousands of people dealt with this, and/or are still dealing with this, and how much $ Nissan threw at it, but the problem was grease on the worm screw. The motor has a worm screw sticking out of it that is HEAVILY greased. Also, that end of the motor isn't sealed, and that’s the end with the brushes. The commutator was packed with burned grease and the brushes were almost unrecognizable. I did have to remove the motor from the bracket, and open the motor and pull the armature. Bit it was cake, and worked like brand new until I had to say goodbye.
Didnt look up pn’s, but the RZ34 motor assy looks lust like the Z33.
Idk…
