Did Nissan make the right call by naming it just "Z"?

Which one?

I don't think it sounds odd at all. I often refer to my car, and others though out the generations, as a/the/my "Z" so it works for me.
This exactly. Every Z I've had has been the "Z". Now it's actually called just that. :)

I like the Z....I mention this Z name when the 350Z came out that Nissan should of called it just the Z. (It's a sports car)
Just like what Chevrolet did with the Corvette name and eventually, badge only with the Corvette name.

Iā€™m guessing it was intentional so they can release the lower HP motor under the same name in year 2 or 3. You know itā€™s coming.

Why would that matter?

The Z31 and Z32 were both called "300ZX" and each had a turbo and non-turbo motor. But both motors were 3.0L...

Did Nissan start labeling cars by HP recently?

I disagree as well. They did it, in part, due to the potential perception of reduced performance by going from 370Z to 300Z. I don't think they would have brought the X out again as this is not as focused on cutting edge tech as the ZX models were.

They did right. My Asian friends donā€™t like the #4. So, if they went with 400z they wouldnā€™t get it,

I'm ok with Z, but I will be finding some way to put Fairlady on mine.

Do you guys think Nissan make a mistake not naming the Z the 400Z? Like everyone on the web is still calling it "400Z".

I'll say it again, everyone can thank Autoguide/that other Z forum for spreading all the false reporting of Nissan Canada trademarking 400Z.

Nissan should have left it at Fairlady Z. The real Z owners know thatā€™s the true name of the car.

If they had called it 400Z, then 400 would only denotes the HP. If Nissan released a more powerful versions in the future then the name would have to change. So I'm fine with Nissan Z.
