Practicing my alliteration in the title.

This has happened to me many times now, and it's on my list of complaints for my next trip to the dealer.

I'll be driving along, say in a 45 zone, and I'll set the cruise control. I typically don't use the radar-guided ICC. This is the old school, fixed-speed cruise control. Then I enter a zone where the speed limit goes up by 5 mph. So I'll push the + button five times, and sometimes while doing this, the cruise control will beep and shutdown. Also happens when decreasing the speed setting with the - button.

I've noticed that it seems to happen more in warmer weather, but I'm not completely sure about this.

When it happens, I can generally press the Set button, and it engages fine, so it's some temporary issue.

Anyone else noticing this beep and shutdown problem with cruise control?

Probably just the regular electronic gremlins. Computers don't do well in the heat/cold/humidity of a car. I have a gremlin unrelated the touchscreen will just do something random like turn on the radio or exit nav all by itself.

I definitely feel like it's some software issue, and you mention, or perhaps a faulty button on the steering wheel.

Not suggesting it's a software issue, although it could be. I'm thinking first - this is way outside of a mechanic's skillset. I'd take a look at the inputs to the cruise control. Check the little sensors up front, maybe dirty or loose.

If you press and hold the set speed should jump in 5mph increments.

Yep I know about this feature, but I still don't want the cruise control to beep and shutdown if I adjust the speed some other way. Both should work, right?

Yes they should but maybe lots of presses confuses the system although you are right it shouldn’t do. Hope you can get it fixed.

no issues here but i have only used cruise control a few times. i love the auto sensing feature - i set a target and let it work its magic.

my daily commute includes a 30 mile stretch on the interstate but CC is usually too passive for the 5 o’clock 500. Morning commute is not much better.

Just realized the only time I ever used the cruise control was on my way back from the dealership back in April (~300mi).

The only thing I noticed was I needed to decrease the distance/sensitivity, as it was being way too cautious about slowing down. Stuck behind a slower car, Z slows down, faster car passes on the left, I pull out behind the passing car and even if the passing car was well ahead it would slow even more and not start accelerating back to cruising speed until the car was WAY ahead. I think that’s a setting though, not something wrong with the car.

Thanks. I hope so too. It's very annoying. Every car I've owned before this one was subject to the same user inputs. The Z is the only one that beeps and shuts down.

Just a note here.

I'm not reporting a problem with radar-guided ICC. This is the old-school, fixed-speed cruise control. There should be no sensing of surroundings. In fact when the failure occurs, there are no other vehicles around, just open road and speed limit signs.

Maybe nobody but me uses the old-school cruise. Why don't I use ICC? Simple: I don't want to slow down. I set a speed, and that's how fast I want to go. If I approach a car going slower, I don't want my Z to slow down. I'm going to pass the slow car. If it's too congested, I don't even use cruise.

I have noticed sometimes if I press cruise buttons too quick, there's sone lag in the changes. The speed change commands can get confused and overwrite each other out of order.

But it's never just shut off the system.

People be posting random electrical issues with this car and I wonder if there's a fragile harness that gets damaged/pinched during manufacturing.

I've noticed this as well.

I haven't quite worked out the sequence of unexpected behavior. It's like you resume or set, then want to change the set speed up or down, and instead it changes to a slower set speed that matches your current speed.

For example, you're driving 40, but your set speed is 55. So you resume, and want to set it to 60 or maybe 50, but it changes to 42 or something like that.

Is this what you've seen?

Yep, exactly.

The other gremlin my car has is the USB port randomly disconnecting while driving. Sometimes it's on a bump in the road, sometimes it's not. I notice this mostly during road trips where I have my phone plugged in for navigation.

I use the USB A port, and I haven't really seen this problem. Early on I had problems with an inferior cable, but a better cable fixed it (see this thread). This was for Android Auto. I don't have any experience with Car Play.

I have seen AA fail to start in very hot weather. My last road trip to Phoenix, I had a couple of cases where AA just didn't start. It was 95+ outside, and the car was sitting in the sun. Eventually as the AC did it's job it started working.
