If you open your app now, will it show you where your car is? That's the one I thing I like, but can't figure out if/when I will have access to that.
Yes, but I think because I'm still in the free trial period?

Does the in-car GPS system work through Nissan Connect? In other words, if I don't subscribe to the Nissan Connect will I lose map updates and the GPS function when my free trial expires?

I think GPS (as In determining your location) should continue to work even if you don't have NissanConnect. However map updates are a separate thing that will probably stop if you let NissanConnect expire.

In my case, I plan to use Android Auto. Google maps are always up to date with no subscription fee. I suspect car play is similar, but I have no experience with it.

Basic features will still work without Nissan Connect. For example I got the following email and alert from the app even through I'm not a subscriber. BTW it was a false alarm.

The tow alarm on your Z 2023 was triggered at 16/09/2023 11:04 AM CDT.

You can view your alert history and manage your preference settings by logging in to your MyNISSAN® app or Owners Portal account.

NissanConnect® Services are dependent upon the telematics device being in operative condition, cellular connection availability, navigation map data and GPS satellite signal reception, which can limit the ability to either reach NissanConnect® Services Customer Care or receive support. I know I'm starting to get old when I say we need to write our congress about this stuff. Its insane to me that I buy a car full of hardware but I cant use it without paying a monthly fee for it. We already paid for the hardware! Ok map updates, silly features like remote start, I kind of get. Other manufacture's are charging for more than that. Like heated steering wheels and seats. Electric cars charging for more HP! Which can also be done with ICE cars. There were actually hush-hush meetings Trifecta was in with GM, and they wanted to do this with the C8. Me using a heated feature with preinstalled hardware that's paid for should not have a reoccurring charge. Where does it end? People need to put a stop to this BS. We need to at least be able to order the car without the hardware. Maybe save a few pennies and they can shove the subscription.

The trial period on the 23's is laughable. All our other cars we have had with this crap at least gave it to us for 5 years. Which is the lifespan of most original buyers ownership. We all think oh I will just use google maps on my phone. Well if they are not already planning on charging for it, they will when the majority of the population is paying a car manufacturer for it. I almost forgot the best part! We were basically held hostage at a Lexus until we installed the app on the phone and let the salesperson link the car we purchased.

I've got to stop coming on here late at night when a full day of the world has nagged me. Like this fine citizen.

If Nissan really wanted to make a useful app, they'd let us disable other people's cars when they park like that guy.

I'm just really confused about what exactly NissanConnect is. I have had my car for three months and have not been paying monthly fees, but I am afraid I am in free trial periods and they will start charging me for stuff. I intentionally never used Sirius because I know companies try to make cancelling their services as impossible as they can.

When I look online, there seems to be a number of tools listed under NissanConnect, so I'm not really sure what I got as part of the purchase of the car that will remain with me forever or what I will have to pay extra for. I'm also not really sure that there is anything in the packages that I can't get with a new iPhone and CarPlay.

What sparked this was this email that I just received (below). Thanks in advance. :)

Thank you for being a valued NissanConnect® Services powered by SiriusXM customer for your Nissan Z. We want to let you know of an upcoming price change for your NissanConnect® Services.

As of October 26, 2023, NissanConnect® Services pricing will change as outlined below.*

Please note this email does not indicate you are being charged for services. If you are in an included trial or don't have an active NissanConnect® Services subscription, the price increase will not affect you unless you purchase a paid subscription.

*Price excludes applicable taxes and fees.

The price change will not affect any payments made before October 26, 2023 and any promotional offers will continue at the current discounted rate and charge at the new price effective with your first renewal on or after October 26, 2023. All payments made on or after October 26, 2023 will be at the new price.

No action is required to keep your current services and we are excited to continue bringing you the latest ways to stay connected with your Nissan Z. For more information on managing your subscription, including how to update your payment or change/cancel your plan, you can speak with a customer care specialist at 1‑866‑535‑7935. You can also manage your account online.

I am glad someone else is as confused as I am! I agree not with paying for. I received the same email this past week (Purchased my 2023 Z on April 15). There is also another App they loaded in my phone which is suppose to track mileage/etc and alert of maintenance due which is kind of useful but again not sure if is free?

yeah its probably because the uptake rate in the subscriptions was so bad they just admitted defeat and make it almost like an included feature just like a 3 year bumper to bumper.

there is no way I would pay even a dollar for it but I will take it for free I guess.

I think that if you pay for the service and put the App on your phone, you can remote start your car with your phone. I like that function and use it with my Frontier on hot/cold days. Remote start is included on the key fob with the truck. It’s not worth $13 a month for me to have remote start on the Z. I dont see any other functions on Nissan Connect that I would use.
Remote start? I don't see that on my 23 Z :(

Manual. Maybe that's why.

However, my dealership told me the 9AT didn't have it either...maybe Canada is different.
#savethemanuals

Me too.

I set up Nissan Connect when I bought the car. I haven't had a use for it yet. But living in SoCal, I don't need to heat up the engine/interior before I drive. I could imagine it would be useful in colder climates. 🥶
