I finally got around to changing the clutch fluid on my 23 Z performance. It has about 16K on it. I was surprised how dirty the fluid looked so I’m glad I did it. I used MOTUL RBF 600 which a lot of 370Z owners recommend. It was pretty straightforward and I filled and emptied the reservoir three times. The method I used was pump the clutch slowly five times then hold it down and then drain it out. There was one slight difference from the YouTube videos of the procedure on older Z’s the bleed valve was 10mm instead of 8mm and there wasn’t a rubber cap on it. This is the list of what I used to complete it 10mm wrench, 3/16 fuel line, MOTUL RBF 600, turkey baster, shop rags and empty plastic bottle.

I'd put a cap on that puppy, just to keep the dirt out and make it nicer for the next change.

I fabricated a cap out of the hose for the time being.

This is the same as the brake bleed nipples. You should be able to buy a pack cheap at any auto parts store.

Heat degrades clutch fluid even faster than the fluid in street driven brakes. Smart manufactures keep the fluids separated in different reservoirs. Changing helps keep the slave cylinder seals happy.

Thank you. I will add this when flushing brakes. I’m at 14k but I figure the car has been sitting with the brake fluid since manufacturing date. Motul 5.1 for brakes and rbf 600 for the clutch. Going to flush the diff too with royal purple 75-90 then run for a couple thousand, then switch to motul gear 300ls.

I did something similar had dealer changed engine and differential oil and brake fluid at last service. I will start doing most of the preventative maintenance myself once warranty ends.

Nice job! Thank goodness Nissan relocated the clutch slave cyl outside of the transmission, unlike the 370Z's. Off topic but how was the fluid change and bleeding done on the Z34?

I found a pretty good video on YouTube it was on a 370Z, but the process was exactly the same.

Good god that fluid is disgusting. I had no idea it would get that bad that quickly. Looks like I'm adding in a fluid flush for the clutch and the brakes for my 20,000 service.
