Backup Camera Stopped Working This Morning (software glitch)

So, I hop in my car and pull out of my garage, and I'm sitting in my driveway getting Android Auto connected and messing with my climate controls, when a phone call rings in. I don't recognize the number so I use call screen. Then I get ready to roll and notice that my backup camera isn't working. I go in and out of reverse a few times. No luck. The car knows I'm in reverse because the dashboard shows R, and the correct parking sensors start beeping, but no camera image.

Thinking it's a software glitch, I turn the car off and start it again. Still doesn't work. Made it all the way to work and backed into my parking space, still doesn't work.

So looking around the web a bit it seems like there are somewhat similar complaints, but this one is a bit different. Others complain about about a black screen. I don't have a black screen, the central display just shows what it would if I was in N or a forward gear. It's like the infotainment system isn't clued into the fact that I'm in reverse. The rest of the car seems to know.

Anyway, I'm letting the car stay off for a longer duration to see if it comes back.

I plan on holding on to my Z for awhile. You’re making me start to think getting an extended Nissan warranty might be worth considering.

So there is only 14,000 miles on your car and only 3 years old? Are other 2023 owners experiencing this? Is this something that is happening on newer models?

Okay. I went to go check it at lunch, and it works again. I think the infotainment system was off long enough to fully reboot, or something. Seems like a software glitch.

So, don't let anyone call you while you're backing up, I guess that's the lesson here?

I had a similar issue on my '24. Holding the power button on your infotainment until message on the screen shows its powering off. Dont recall the actual message. It will power back on by itself. That's what fixed it for me.

Maybe it was Nissan calling to see how your Z was doing.

Hello, I’m experiencing the same exact issue on my 2025 performance. In my case it doesn’t seem to be resolving itself. Has the issue resurfaced since you posted this thread? Did you eventually take the car to a dealership for a permanent fix?

I did go into the dealer back in 2025. The service advisor basically told me, if its not staying locked up and comes back to normal, just let it go. He goes onto to tell me, there was a Z owner recently before I came in and their infotainment was locked up and frozen to the point where they replaced it under warranty.

Right now, everything is still working except the delay when putting her into reverse. I have to wait a second before driving backwards, to allow the camera to show me where Im going and not hit a car or curb.

I could go in and file a warranty claim, or find a work around and be happier.... Im going with the work around.
