Looking over on the Supra side a lot of them are poking fun of the base Z for having an open diff. For those with a 370Z that went this route, I'm just wondering what are all the options out here and how much did it ended up costing you?

I hear it can be done. However; I also heard it had to be done right or messes with the overall car. I think the manufacturer LSD is the safe bet to go.

My 1st question to my dealer is how much to install the LSD on my new Z?

There are a ton of LSD options for the 370Z. The problem is, I'm suspicious the new Z uses the R190 differential and not the R200 that is on the 370Z/G37 cars.

This isn't a problem for long - the aftermarket has been at work with the R190 diffs since they debuted the VR30DDTT in the Red Sport cars at Infiniti. AMS has an aftermarket LSD available as does Z1 Motorsports. So it's just a matter of confirming which diff is in the car.

I honestly hope it's an R200 as that opens up a lot more options. But you can get it done for less than $2000... at least pre-COVID you could. I'm not sure what labor and such looks like now. A quick glance at Z1motorsports shows many diff options available from $1099-$1500. You can go helical or clutch type in that range. The Nismo GT Pro clutch type is $1599. But labor is important to account for and I'm not sure what that looks like.

Where does it say in any specs the new Z has the R190 diff? It should come with at least the R200, lots of aftermarket for that.

I'm pretty sure the Q50/Q60 use the R190. Maybe that's why? Wouldn't make sense since Nissan's been using the R200 for a while now but that's the only reason I can think of.

It's not confirmed either way yet - at least not that I've seen. However, the Q50 and Q60 use the R190. I would bet that's likely what's in the Z. I believe the 370Z was the last car in the entire lineup using the R200 assembly. It would make sense to align it with its platform sisters.

$3100 total to get the open diff on a base 370 changed to a bulletproof Wavetrac diff.
Included replacing the OEM axle flanges, side bearings and seals which has to be done to do it right.. Plus Z1 urethane diff bushings are a must.

I don't know what they are laughing at. Their 4 banger model also comes with an open diff. 😂

Only thing with the new Z is they supposedly upgraded a lot of the stuff around the diff assembly for the new car. Might not need a bushing upgrade but we won't really know that until guys like you (that really drive these outside of a press event) get their hands on one.

It also has a lot less power. You'd have more of a point if the 3 liter didn't have an LSD.

My point is that both base models are stripped down, but the sport Z is a better starting point imo. It's much easier and cheaper to add LSD to a Z than it is to swap in a B58 into the 4-banger Supra as some on the other forum have wanted to do.
