Hi all! I just put down a deposit on a '24 Nissan Z Performance yesterday. However, when I asked the sales rep to take a photo of the dashboard, I noticed the odometer reading was at 70 miles.

The dealer has already removed $10k from the MSRP. However, I am still somewhat taken off guard and annoyed by this fact, as all the offer documents they provided still listed the mileage as 5 miles. Some part of this is on me, as I forgot to take a look at the odometer when I took it out on a test drive last week. I did check the video I recorded during the test drive, and it was already at 67 miles then.

The car was assembled back in September 2024, and delivered to the dealer in October 2024. I asked the sales rep where the mileage came from, and he said the car had "a couple of test drives" and "moving around the lot to prevent lot rot".

I've done the research, and most people say anything less than 200 miles can be considered new. I also know that any given dealer will only have 1~2 Zs in their inventory, and all test drives will be using those cars so I am not expecting single-digit mileage upon delivery. However, 70 miles still seem like quite a high number to me.

I am curious about how many miles most of the Z owners have on their odometers when taking delivery of their car. Am I being paranoid? Is this normal for a Z that has been at the dealership for some time?

Lenders will usually require the car to be at least the previous model year, and less than 400 miles to be considered “new“ for the purposes of a loan. The 2024 I picked up in June only had 25 miles on it, but there’s 25 they had me do the test drive in had 60ish on it, and I wasn’t nice to it during the test drive.

What can be considered "new" for financing purposes isn't necessarily what someone can/will consider "new" for a cars condition. Granted its likely in decent shape, but 70 miles on a "new" car wouldn't necessarily make it new in my eyes.

I'd say its largely a formality but when you're making a $40,000+ purchase I find these things matter, at least to me. My Z had 9 miles on it when I bought it. Whether that's enough of a personal concern to justify looking for one with less miles is a question only you can answer.

You are the one buying it, if it bothers you then I would take that into account. On the other hand, if you find it doesn't bother you much at all, then go for it.

So looks like a Z with 60+ miles is not a one-off. But is it because of the mileage that made you decide to take the '24 instead of the '25?

That's exactly the point I've been torn. I would've been fine if the car has 20 or 30 miles, but this is more than what I expected. I will try to negotiate with the dealer more but I doubt they will budge given I already put the deposit down (noob mistake)

From what I can tell, there are a few 2024's still sitting on dealer lots, 10k is already a large amount off, but other dealers are doing that too for the 2024's they have on there. They might discount it more, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. 10k off is a decent amount as is. Which could also be used to justify another 2024 without those miles on it. Again, all up to your preferences here.

No, it was the fact that I paid 46.5 for the 24 z versus the 53.3 they were wanting for the 25. Also, the 25 had the gross blue interior, and the red was less offensive to my eye. They were also willing to heavily negotiate on the extra warranties that I wanted as long I was gonna get that 24 out of their showroom.

That's about the same price they offered me for the '24 Performance. Granted, they also provided a lifetime powertrain warranty plus 3yr/36,000 miles comprehensive warranty with the purchase. Factoring in the mileage, my deal might not be as good as yours.

It’s not ‘moving it around the dealership.’ At 500’ per move, 100 moves would still only be 10 miles.
They may allow more test drives than most, but it’s most likely employees driving it home. The device connection list may tell the story. Mine was at 16 miles, was at the dealership for 4-5 months and had 3 or 4 phone connections listed.

That's my thought as well. 70miles/9 months at the dealership, meaning they are getting almost 8 miles per month. Definitely not a "moving around" number.

Sounds pretty good if it was the only one in the area. I wouldn’t let it bother you, you’re gonna enjoy the hell out of the car. On the plus side, you’re that much closer to the break in so you can start beating on it sooner!

Mine had 6 on the clock when i drove it off the lot. Others i looked at had 10.

70 is not bad but that much more than a couple of test drives.

more than likely someone at the dealership is driving it to lunch or home a few times. Check the tires for abuse - particularly the shoulders.

back in the day i would run atlanta drag-way on friday nights ($20). One night some kid and his friends were in three brand new corvettes with the dealership paper tag. they were running them, burn out and all. One of the kids was the dealership owner‘s son.

Mine had 35 miles on it and was a leftover 24 performance. I wouldn't let it bother you. The discount more than would make up for it in my eyes. If you had 10k in one hand and 40-50 miles more than an average new car, i'd gladly take the 10k.

Good advice. Will definitely take a look at the tires when I take delivery next week.

Thanks all for the replies! I have decided to take delivery -- just like yall said, as long as the car is not abused and is in decent shape, I don't want to let this stop me from enjoying a nice car!
