I’m curious about how the Trump Tariffs on imported automobiles will impact Nissan’s decision to continue importing Z’s to our shores. I know final assembly is done in California but for all intents and purposes the car is still imported. I wonder what kind of market there is for a 54k Sport and 70k Performance let alone an 85k Nismo.

Where did you get the idea that the Z’s final assembly was in California? Nissan doesn’t even have a plant in that state.

Lord Help Us if this goes through. Mustangs and Challengers are going to multiply like rabbits.
Oh dear, that is the #1 reason I care. I wouldn’t like to see that happen.

They'll be affected as well Challengers and Mustangs are packed with Chinese and Mexican parts some of these parts get tariffed multiple times crossing the boarder for refinishing. Some US assembled cars will end up being more expensive then imports.

American cars and I assume car parts manufactured in Canada and Mexico would be exempt-ish(?).

" However, companies that import vehicles under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will get special consideration until the Commerce Department establishes a process for levying the 25% duties, the White House said. "...NBC News

I could have sworn I had heard that while the Z is manufactured in Japan once they arrive in California Nissan is operating a small shop where a body panel or two is then added. This was done as a means of getting around the current low tariff. But I could be totally wrong.

If that happens, our Z’s will worth a lot more. Worse case scenario, Nissan will build a plant in the US like Porsche will be doing to avoid tariffs.

Nissan already has assembly plants in Tennessee and Mississippi but Nissan GTR, Z, Infiniti Q50, Q60 all assembled in Japan.

At the end of the day, it is working as Trump planned since the beginning. Big corporations will start moving and start production in U.S. So all those US based companies who moved to Mexico and China for cheap labor, will now be moving back to US. It is a win in my book.

%25 is a discount since most new cars increased in price over %30+ from 2020 to 2024. This is obviously a power play to force other countries hands to rethink their tariff policies against the US.
